The easiest way would be to make a gobo (British word) or cookie (American word for the same thing. Etymology of cookie is cuculoris BTW.)

What's that? Well it's an image that's used to attenuate the values of a light, rather like a slide projector. If you were to paint an image of leaves and tree detail and load that into your light (exactly how you do this depends on what software you're using) then it will project that map onto the scene as in the still you linked to.
