View Full Version : just playing with my mouse!!! :)
GenConfusion 08-20-2002, 09:12 PM No real intention or direction with this one. I just wanted to play with cinematic lighting, in this particular element.... The whole idea basically originated from me just pushing paint around.. I've been doing some (tightly directed work lately) and with this one I decided to just play with it and have some fun.... I will use it in my portfolio so I can get some friggin work... ( I tell ya it's tough finding cool projects over here in Jersey) I guess I'll have to keep pushing on..... or Burger King is always looking for help!!!!!!!!!
so bash away at me, I need it to help me stay inspired....

He, welcome to the board!
... so bash away at me ...
Okay, you've asked for it ;)
First let me tell you that I really really really like this piece a lot :bounce:
But when you want c&c, here we go.
- The bubble machine has no groundshadow from the big ceiling light and no shadow on the wall from the green light.
- Do you know that all the ellipses on the bottom are rotated counterclockwise and the ones in the ceiling clockwise? That is perspectively impossible.
But as I said: I really really really like this piece a lot :bounce:
Cheers, jeroentje

Wow what an image, this is fabulous some really great texture and atmosphere, first thing I noticed was the elippses, missed the shadow but as Jerentke said those ellipses are impossible, with perspective an ellispes is still the same angle as a scircle is round no matter what way you turn it.

elipses in perspective COULD be distorted like that with a crazy fisheye lense though... but yeah, i agree with you guys.
also, in the main tendril behind the bubble car, the lines should follow the contour of the piping more, instead of being a little flattened out. Remember, a long curvy pipe thing is still just a distorted cylinder, and those elipses will getcha everytime.

hey guys sorry for the slow reply... got a bit busy..
jeroentje -thanks for the welcome and the crit.. I kind of made this pic at the spur of the moment.. ddin't concern mysle with perspective (well at least I didn't really plot lines, so to speak) I understand what you mean but do you think is that far off?? I agree with the ground shadow, totally forgot to put it in.... oops.. I have more to post, but feel free to check my site for my other work, bought a new host finally www.taminglight.com (http://www.taminglight.com)
element412 - well I used my hand also :)
Kaiskai- I hear ya.. I have a good grasp of perspective, I just didnt think this was too far off... I'll post some intense perspectives I've done.... you'll see how anal I could be, but seriously do you think its that far off???
blankslatejoe- yeah I knwo Henrik from some other forums, and the piping tubes have been an issue with everyone who has sen the pic, I will fix it and repost but thanks for the C & C.. I appreciate it

I think it's cool, some small adjustments needed as mentioned but if you're just banging it out who cares? Nice piece

...do you think is that far off?...
Well, not ver far. But anyone with a good knowledge of perspective will see it. I just thought, because it is such a wonderfull painting, it was a pitty to have this little mistake in it.
But as I said: "I really really really like this piece a lot".
About your site: I thought I had allready seen it about 2 weeks ago? Great work in it and a very original and warm design
Cheers, and keep posting here, jeroentje

jeroentje - I don't disagree with you in the least... I have been looking at this pic almost as a release from the recent extremely acurate stuff I have been working on (commission wise) so I think my mind sort of gave up with this one... almost got too lax... I didn't even think I would get any comments for it... tell you the truth, I had no idea people would even like it.... so that's probably why I have such an "enngh" outlook toward it.. but I do agree with you, and appreciate you taking the time to comment. I will fix it and repost :) I figure if I have already put the time into it, may as well make it right...

Yeah, I know what you mean. And I also think that not every little mistake in a piece should be fixed. You can kill something by that and take all the life out of it doing that. Just my eye fell on it. Anyway, enough about it.
I usually krank out some funny faces when I've done a lot of precision work. (See some other thread somewhere around here).

sorry for being so negative, and as jeroentje mentioned Iit is probably just us anal artists who would notice, most wouldn't people wouldn't. and I know a lot of 3D artists who wouldn't. I love the overall piece, Its just for me that I keep looking down at them a little. but trust me, this is a minor little thing, heck in my film I spent the whole time distorting and forcing perspective, ooften trying to flattenthings (odd how ususally you want to avoid flattening, and then you work on something where everything is flattened out.)
beautiful colour and lighting is what I get most ot of this scene.
