View Full Version : How do I model a Volley Ball?

Hi there.

I was wondering if there is an easy way for modelling a volley ball in lightwave. I need to model it and make the texturing also, so I think UV mapping is a good solution for the textures.
But what about the modelling? I can't make it just a sphere with bump maps...

Hope the is an easy solution...

From the looks of it, maybe starting with a cube, subdivide->metaform twice and then subpatch. that will get you pretty close to the basic shape I think.

Yeah, that may make it very close, but without any volume on the individual parts of the ball. If I start smoothshifting it, it starts to get more like a cube...

there are a few good tutorials, its ends up being a tesselated ball. sorry I dont have it, but there is at least one very detailed tute out there.

Check on the newtek forums. There was someone who did a very easy tutorial segment on it. It's a procedure I wouldn't have thought of but it worked great.

Iīve made a small demogif in which I use C_Bevel (http://www.pictrix.jp/lw/Cbevel/index.html) for the volley ball :)

smooth shift and size may also be used in place of that c-bevel tool.

I started modelling with a tesselated ball, but it isn't right yet... needs some work...
