I just moved my work over to Maya 6 and I'm rendering with Mental Ray and all of a sudden it seems to add post effect glow on objects. Its bizarre as some objects are just lambert shaders.

here.

Whats going on? its some setting i've missed? just been going through everything...

Mental Ray for Maya 6 does that I had the samething happen to me when i was useing Maya 5, take a look at your lights the intensity may be to high and check the refectivity in mental ray globals. all so how are you rendering the scene? with final gather or global Illumination.

Rendering it with GI and FG on.

It finshes the render then adds those glows after, similar the glow effect in the normal sw render.

edit: I turn off final gather and it doesn't do it anymore. So I'm guessing this is a new thing with Final Gather in Maya 6? Anyone know what it is..I'll have a play around

update: it still does it around the actual light (post effect glow) even with Final Gather turned off. The other highlight glows disappear with FG off (seen in the image).
It didn't do this in Maya 5, I'm at a loss

I've gone through anything I can think of. Its just adding some kind of bloom effect around the light source and those blooms of the reflections (as per image).

This all happens once the render is complete, I seem to be able to control it abit with final gather but not without silly increased render times.

arrrgggh

Since you say that this happends after render completion: have you tried to deactivate output shaders in the mentalray render globals under "Features" ?

had the same problem and never found why.

My solution was to uncheck the "export post-effects" flag in the MR render globals/translation...

Hope that help.

Pascal.

That is just so strange.....

I've never had that happen and lots of people are actually trying to get bloom effects and have to use custom shaders!

I've had strange blotches when using FG in conjunction with 'Precompute Photon Lookup'. Maybe that's one cause of your problem.
'Precompute Photon Lookup' boosts FG calculation in certain cases but also has (negative) impact on quality, or at least this is what I experienced.
