Title says it all, is there one available? or maybe a tut, any help would be awesome :)

If you start with an Oren-Nayer-Blinn shader type & up the roughness, you've got a good starting point. I have seen a tut out there for velvet in Max, but I couldnt find it again...

have you tried using a falloff map? I remember seeing a tut for it somewhere. I'll pass it on if I can locate it.

Try a falloff map in the self illumination slot, set it to fresnel and use it for about 50 percent. Make sure the front color is white and the back color is black. Now copy the falloff-map and use it in the diffuse slot, leave white for the front color and change the back (black) color into the diffuse color or map you want to use to color the material.
Now try some different settings in the window below the gradient (don't know the name, I don't have Max here) I would also suggest to use a very subtle noise in the bumb-map.
