Ok I dont if if this fits the rules exactly but let me see if I can pursuade you guys. This is a post apocalyptic vampire. I think I got all the requirements except for the mask, which I dont think he needs becuase his race is more developed than us mere humans. His lungs can take the harsh air now surround the earth. His body can somewhat take the cold temperatures, which is why he only has a thick trench coat. This guy wanders the desolate earth searching for blood that hasnt been turned or mutated so he can feed. He mostly preys on hospitals because he can fins an abundance of good blood there. Anyways if the mods think its to far off topic let me know and Ill see if I cant get a mask on him (although I think he looks better without it):D

All I can say is that is a character I REALLY wouldnt want to mess with...really solid design...nice feel..

The model should be most impressive...

That is only if my modeling skills were as good as some other people around here:p

Thanks for the comments about the design. I just hope I can get by without the mask. I think it will just ruin the character.

if it does require a mask, i think a hanibal type mask would be cool, or if u ever skiied, the faces mask that wraps around the jaw and stretches up to the start of the bridge of the nose would look cool. to feed he could rip the mask off from the back feed and strap it back on.

=) go me!

great design so far man its looking good!!

Yeah I guess I could do a mask ,but I just really want to be able to show his teeth. Since he is a vampire and not human I figured he could breath the air. And also the hoses on his arms are for collecting blood for future feeding. He will grab the victims throat and the gloves will stick a needle in their necks and the hose will store the blood.

I m mainly waiting to see what the mods say about the mask:D

Interesting design. Can't really say more than has already been said. I will watch this entry with interest. :) As for my advice, I would suggest moving the tubes from his hands to the back of his elbows or something. It just seems to me that they would get in his way attached to the back of his hands; especially in a swordfight.

you could have him holding a mask, or have it tied to his belt or something. You could say he only wears it in areas of high intensity toxicity.

really like the design btw...

Hey thanks Krugar. I think Ill just give him the generic mask we've all seen. He may have taken it from one of his vitims and carries it in case of those high level areas. Good idea:D

Im having some trouble getting the pants to look natural and fold like they should. Does anybody have any techniques I could use?Pascal?

I like the idea, The sketch is great and the model seems to be progressing well. Vampires..... I don't believe nuclear radiation is on their list of things that kill em'. But if your gonna have a mask, why not make some customised vampire mask....I'm thinking snake-like fangs, to collect blood without being exposed.....

I really like the strong, fierce design of the character and i think it works without the mask. If your really hung up about putting on on i agree with Krugar, put if as an ornament, perhaps a small one on his belt buckle. the huge jacket adn cables to teh back of his hands look cool, who cares if they aren't practicle

Great design ... original idea :)

I guess you'll fix the edge in the middle of his chest...

hehehe I'm looking forward to those mummified arms :D

Ok here is another update. Ive mostly been playing with the pants and shoes. I dont know if I really like them or not. I might after I get some buckles or other stuff on them. What do yall think?
http://www.vi2.com/maxForumFiles/1_6_2002/59_vamp_crit3.gif

Oh and thanks for all the crits:D
And the seam on the chest is just there because I havent welded the vertices.

You should give him leather boots, with a bandage/rope or something wound from his ankles up to where his pants tuck in mid-way up the shins. (because the laces broke).

Maybe thats cliche'd though??

I feel that those boots you've got now look a bit modern for a chap using a sword

anyway, just a suggestion :)

blc318
02-07-2002, 12:39 PM
Yea I think Ill redo them. I ll get rid of the ridges and probably put some buckles and bandages. But Ill leave the metal with the holes probably. Besides he has to have protective footwear.

blc318
02-07-2002, 09:44 PM
Well I went ahead and changed the shoes. I still dont really like them but then again I havent got any cool buckles or anything else on them yet. What do yall think of this pair of shoes?
http://www.vi2.com/maxForumFiles/1_7_2002/vamp_crit4.gif

Man Im slow. I m falling behind compared to everyone else:)

I think the problem with the feet is the fact that they are too flat on the top. The foot should taper down from the ankle to the toes, kind of in the shape of an 30-60-90 triangle. Check out an anatomy book and look at the structure of the foot. Good start on the model, look foraward to seeing more.

blc318
02-07-2002, 09:55 PM
Hey your right they are a little flat. When you stare at something so long you miss these things. I will fix that, but what about the design of the shoe?

Well I havent done much over the weekend. Mostly because I was tinkering with this head for too long. Just couldnt get one to look good enough. Im still unsatisfied with this one. Its currently unfinished and I need some help. Tell me whats wrong with it Ive been looking at it for too long.

Things that I know of are the mouth and I m probably going to change the shape of the nose.

Here is a quick update before I go to bed. I tried to rework areas of the head to get rid of the huge deep eye cavities. I also changed the nose and shortened the head a bit.

Please any comments will be helpful.

I got a question for you guys.

Do yall model in a user view or perspective view? They always look good in a user view but not in perspective for me. The screen dump looks the way I want it to but the rendered is a perspective view.

Just wanted your general opinion and I really could use some crits. I need help:(

Jhonus
02-11-2002, 06:35 PM
ok, i think his eyes are too small, extend them more towards the nose as the gap there looks too big.

his lips and nose are fine (from that angle anyway)... and the overall proportions of the head look ok to me.

i had to draw a pic to show what i mean for this last part... the side of the head is missing some bone structure. notably a jaw line (big fat arrows), which should tuck under curve 1. Also if you look in your original sketch the last half of curve 1 is really defined... your missing this in your model at the moment.

The other unmarked skinny arrow, shows the curve of the bone that defines the edge of the temple, its quite subtle, but adds alot to a model

http://dickmygoose.com/images/hopper/vamp_head_crit_copy.jpg

after getting the proportions and major areas of my model blocked out i usually switch to the perspective view for the details. Also, when modelling in persp you should be checking the silouhette/outline of your character at every angle.

hi,

very cool design. lots of peronality.
i love the coat. in fact in one of my early ideas for my character he had a coat just like that - but then I went with the backpack.

about your model:

make the changes pointed by Krugar (you may also want to pull the eye-socket bone back towards the temples). In the sketch the brows cast shadow over the entire eye.

the eyeline should be halfway down the head. so you have to increase the size of his skull (but not the face). You have the size right in the sketch.

there's a rule that says that if you draw a straight line from the tip of the nose to the chin, both lips should touch that line. right now he seems to have a massive overbite.

the boots look like sneakers. They don't need all that detail. just the imposing shape thay have in the sketch.

basically just go with your sketch. I think it has most of the information you need.

wow really helpful replys. I will get on those as soon as possible. Keep the crits coming. Thanks alot.

love the sketch! got the industrial design look. Ithink the lips are really good except they look too flat across. maybe pull the corners of the lips back into the face.
hope that helps!http://alshaheen.net/artists/cerreto/vamp_head_crit_copy.jpg

hope you dont mind messed a lil with your head not that it looks better

definetly use the perspective view just take two boxes one on the side and one on the back and aplly your pics as a texture if you need to use a refrance the otherviews are good for mechanics and solid surfaces but will screw you on organics remember it actualy tries to flaten the obj in those views so it is no the same at all really

I never use User view. If something looks screwed up in one view, it's pilot error. ;)

blc318
02-12-2002, 04:46 AM
Yeah I guess I just need to take the differences into account more closely when switch ing between the views. I hope to have an update tonight. I ve already started on fixing the head. Thanks for all the replies.

Ok here is a little update.. or more of a correction. I think I touched on all your suggestions. Let me know if it is better or worse. The neck is still being worked on and the ears will come hopefully shortly. Then its just tweaking the head so I can get to the next step. I have to fix the shoes before I can get to the coat. Anyways please crit away:)

comparing ti to your sketch it looks like the cranium in the model is a little smaller.. also try to define the jaw a little more specially towards the back ... that shold give your model a more tough and chisled look .. one more thing.. the frown area above the nose ..it needs more detail..or maybe it looks different from an other alngle.

looking really good though ... both the head and body

blc318
02-12-2002, 08:37 PM
oozeball: Yeah I kinda took a little creative license on the head from the drawing. I just thought the head was a little big. I always have problems with the jawline. I try to get the sternal mastoid (spelling?) around the same area and it tends to mess up the jawline. I plan on adding some wrinkles on the brow or creases above the nose. Hopefully Ill have time to work on it tonight after I get out of school. Thanks oozeballl.

Anybody else want tot tell me whats wrong?

sherban
02-13-2002, 02:16 AM
you don't have to resize the head. Just resize the face until his eyes are about half way.

Thanks for all the crits. I havent gotten much time to work on this lately. Ive been sick and trying to handle school work also. But I think Im just about through with the head. Ignore the crease b/c I havent welded the halves. I also have not attached the ears. Please crit the proportions because I spent alot of time tweaking and I want it to llok right. The head is meant to be a little stylized so its not going to be realistic.

Any comments? Did I finally get the proportions of the head right?

I'm not sure if the proportions are dead on but I don't know that it matters. He has a very cool stylized look to him and nothing sticks out as wrong. I Look forward to the rest of him, you are making nice progress.
