Hi ho all!:wavey:
I'm getting some bizzaro problems with director 8.5 crashing in miaw with 3d files.

I was just wondering if any max/director buffs out there had any ideas as to what the problem might be, ie. intersecting polys, unsupported objects, something like that?

As a side note, how many people out there are using Director 8.5? It would be nice to know who to confer with out there in the wide world!:D

System specs for the test machines are:

1) Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz, 256M ram, nvidia geforce 4 4200
2) Pentium 866Mhz, 128M ram, nvidia geforce 2 mx
3) Pentium 400, 190M ram, nvidia geforce 2 mx
4) Dual pentium 700Mhz, 260M ram, nvidia geforce 2 mx

All systems run win 2000, and 1) also runs XP. Crashes occur on all four test sytems. This is not a code crash (ie. no script error), it's an actual "XXXX.exe has generated errors" type crash.

I don't mean to point fingers at Macromedia but have you contacted them and searched through their support forums? Macromedia software is anything but memory or bug free to say the least, ever experiance that Flash memory hole bug while using Flash objects in Director or Authorware?

Your problem could be with the 3D but I think its a problem on the Macromedia end of things :(

Believe me, I know. I've worked with Director since version 5, and it's been a trial of patience!:D
And the technotes etc. on Macromedia's site for 3D are next to useless.
But I guess that's why I'm asking... do I put it down to another grim reminder of unstability, or is it something inherently wrong with my scenes?

The fact that the scene plays fine in a normal projector bothers me.

Oh, and don't get me wrong, I love Macromedia's products, I just wonder sometimes how much they test specifics like this. I also wonder if it's not director that's the problem, but Max's exporter.

I am pretty certain that the W3D exporter is written by Macromedia (I know the first release was). I do not know if there is a newer version available that was made by Discreet.
