few points:
i want the ground to appear semi toylike ie like felt so it is going to remain like this
the lights will get brghter soon
more detail and props to be added to the back ground
i might change the camera view slightly to a lower position
just to let u see wat im currently doing

well, you're doin' pretty good!:buttrock: i really like this semi-toylike style! will you add grass to the ground? and i think you gozza change the smoke comin' out of the chimney. make it more transparent in the top and maybe also a bit wider.

just thought about the sky being really blue (very saturated) with some clouds that are very bright white. that would be cool and also fit to your toon style. :)

thanks
the sky could end up being a blue gradient

Very cool and kind of scary. I was working on a very similar scene.

How about some Chanlum lovin' for the gound to make a nice felt look? I really dig the style.

The house is very nicely detailed. I would work a bit on the lighting to give it a bit more subtlety. I agree about the grass needing some texture, even though you said you dont want to. I like the flowers aswell. Good work.

Very nice scene definitely go for the blue gradient from light at the horizon to dark at the top, and looks like Brandon beet me to the chanlum for felt suggestion, multipy it with fresnel for great looking felt or velvet. there are some composition issues bothering me but I'll sketch something up tonight for that. basically there is a bad t intrsection betwen the horizon and the main shroom on the right side of theimage, the same goes for the lower right fence post and the log. and last but not least the front left fence post and the rock. very nice targeting and direction in the scene though, pretty strong compostiion. are you still planning onplaying with the lighting, even with the look your expressing I think the lighting is a little too bla right now but thats just me.

thanks for the comments guys
i want crits but please the design aint finished yet
the camera position and the lights are left till the last stage of the design
so no sketches please (dont ambush the concept :) ), this will only sway me from my train of thought if you get wat i mean .
and i know u are only trying to help me get the pic right, i am just a funny old british artist who is very petty minded.
more wips comming
also i have removed the horrible stepping logs to the house and added a crazy paved path as i originaly wanted but was too lazy to do.

I saw a tut somewhere that shows how to make great clouds and skys using SLA. For the life of me I can't remember where it was. Maybe someone can jog my rusty brain. I really like the sky in the latest image the best. Something about the it makes the image seem more fanciful, kinda gives it a pseudo Disney feel. I mean that as a compliment too. The more I look at it the more I really like the rock path.

Nice Pic....especially the path! I would suggest, as usual, that you composite in PS or something and use gorsian blur and masks instead of DOF in Cinema, it really spoils the look when you forground tree glows!

08-21-2002, 07:30 AM
Oh, and how about a little ChanLum for the grass area?
davedavidson
08-21-2002, 08:05 AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOO more on the grass please for the love of all things cute. :)
u will all have to wait to see wat the grass looks like
as for the sky i have decided to reverse the colours of it
and there aint going to be any clouds in the sky, i want to keep it a bit simple if u know wat i mean
dof in c4d is good the tree on the left hand corner is actualy rather large and is so it does actuall get the dof effect.
i personally dont like touching renderings in photoshop. my aim when i set out to do a render is to get all the effects out of the 3d app i am using and so far c4d has managed to do this for me. i hope u know wat i mean here. dont get me wrong though there are times when u just have to use photoshop on pics but i personally dont like doing that. in a way it makes me feel i have failed in wat i wanted to acheive when i started the rendering.
does any one else understand wat i am saying here.
rant over back to my scene.

sky better now

Grass looking better. Still think DOF is cack, look around the edges of the tree where it is in the foreground, the way the "fruits" are glowing around the edge.....that's not DOF as it should be....but if you like it that's fine by me!
I agree that PS touchups are not always desired (I too prefer my renders to be the last word) except when the renderer has a weekness and needs to be usurped!
Oh yes, we are also looking a bit blue now?
davedavidson
08-21-2002, 09:52 AM
blue yes , due to the illumination of the blue sky (goddamm it ) can fix soon
grass is ok i like it not far from where i wanted it to be so i can live with it now
dof erm i will play around last with it once all is done
ps touchups pleased someone agrees with me
if i have a bad model etc i just make it real dark then render :)
hides alot
more to follow

hey grass is lookin' cool now! :) but i'd give the sky a more saturated blue. just for the comic style you are going for. as for the DOF i agree with neily b that does not look good when things are glowing instead of being unsharp. :(

Wow, I don't know how I skipped over this thread, that's a really neat layout you have! I'm suddenly inspired to make an actual landscape area thing in 3d.
As far as the sky, I like the 2nd to last best.
Anywho, keep it up! that's really neat

Disregard my last post, please. I didn't see page 2! Is there no way to edit posts on this board?
Thats looking really cool dd
If you are looking for the cute angle how about a small TV antennae,or maybe a satellite dish on the roof and maybe a small outside toilet :)
I know you dont want clouds, but some that looked kind of like cotton wool suspended on strings from above would also enhance the cute look. Now I also know what you mean about no grass you mean like a Santas grotto where they have green felt simulating grass right?
Stu.
Adam just click on the small edit button at the bottom of your post, then there is a box to check to delete your post,I am assuming this deleting option is not time out linked though :)

nice idea
btw cause we live in such a huge world i think u will find that every thing has been done atleas once before. example have u ever locked urself away for a project that is sooooo original and fresh that you think this is sooo cool cause u think it is ur very own idea, only to discover it has been done before. i know i have many times and in many ways it means atleast i am thinking along the lines as other ppl when deceloping concepts.
my 2 cents, RANT over

If they'd put the COKE back in Cola we could all be more creative and find ideas we didn't know existed........not that I've tried of course.....
I agree dd,it is really difficult to do something that has not been done before. For instance imagine getting a job to model an original spaceship for say a movie knowing that if you get to close to someone elses original idea you are in trouble, then imagine how many different kinds of ships have been desingned over the years and how do you make something totally original?,it must be easier for some of the older FX houses as they have some of their earlier models to fall back on and designs to re use :hmm:I suppose it boils down to imagination in the end eh.

I really like the antenna, kinda adds a real touch to the scene. The background additions are also a nice touch gives the scene a better sense of depth. I was looking at the scene and wanted to make a suggestion. How about turning the small mushroom next to the main house into an outhouse? I know you said that you are still working on the lighting, but the spot on the cap directly to the right of the antenna kinda blends with the sky and it just makes the cap take on a funny shape. That was just something I noticed, I'm sure when you get around to setting the light that will resolve it will be resolved. I really think this is a great scene.

lights will remove the sky colour in the top of the msroom
and dog house in the making for the small mushroom
