I use Poser for character animation, and it bugs me how it sets keys on all the elements of the figure when I apply a pose from the library, even if the pose is limited to one element.

Do users of other software share this experience or is there something else annoying them? I'm generally happy with Poser, but would switch if I knew my new choice of software fixes the problem without creating new ones...

haven't used poser, but generally most 3D apps will set keys on all elements when loading a pose from a pose library.

however in general workflow of other 3D apps most animators don't use pose libraries. animation is built on a shot by shot basis, and so you only key things according to how you work.

for most people this is in layers, and only on the controls they are working with in your current pass through the scene.

and you can guarantee that every 3D app has it's annoyances... but it's definately worth downloading a copy of Maya PLE, or gMax and giving some animation a go in a more traditional 3D app. :D

I agree with Ali G. If you're really serious about character animation then you should try out a more powerful package. Maya, 3dsmax and Softimage all have free downloads. AnimationMaster would be another option if your looking for something affordable.

And yes you will get many a headache working with any of these programs.
