This is just a rough sketch of preliminary design of fantasy civilization emperor.
I chose to use emperor's facial expression (later on), to determine high level of particular event in my scene. I think that this is a great way to produce illustration of breaking point in history of one civilization. I will use this character illustration as starting point for developing design for a few solders around this character, in order to achieve a good visualization of importance regarding this particular character. This is just a very basic concept of scene, and scene result will come only after I develop enough information about this and other particular civilization in conflict. Small details is the key for presentation of atmosphere, climate, evolution, socialization, government, reproduction, habits...etc. Anyone must be careful to use just enough details telling this story and not to overstock his scene, I am paying strong attention with this one. Now, because we are talking about large historical conflict in this particular story, we must have a huge battlefield here, even in background plane.....but I am still working on this one for now.

Let me help you with some of my experience.
My advices (regarding 3D) are:
- Sketch as much as you can in start, objects, buildings, characters...etc. On separate papers, and later combine all in one scene. This will fasten your modeling job and allow you to have greater control in modifications if needed.
- Think carefully and plan your scene optimized in geometry from start in order for you to have a full control for desired lighting and rendering process later on. Balancing with quality and optimization is a smart start.
- Don't bother with modeling anything that can't be seen from desired perspective, and always use some optimization in distant (small) textures and objects. (regarding this type of huge scenery)
- Try to find photos on internet as a sample for texture, material, desired lighting, level of specularity, level of saturation, level of reflection...etc. This is great way to be fully prepared for producing a great photorealistic image, if you have this type of samples from start. I will upload mine samples as soon as I acquire some of those, in order for me to be more clear and about this particular stage of preparing.
- Keep in mind what you want to do in post-production before start to work on textures, lighting setup & rendering passes, be organized from start and try to develop pipeline that meets your needs.
Unfortunately, I have a full-time job but I will keep up with this deadline, because this great theme pulls out a lovely inspiration and motivation for creativity.
I wish you all a bunch of inspiration and creativity, and fulfilling work with no technical difficulties of any kind.
Yours truly,

This is just a rough sketch of preliminary design of fantasy civilization emperor.
Final concept sketch will come only after I develop enough information about this and other particular civilization in conflict.
Final concept sketch will follow later on...

I certainly keep your words in mind.
This is a great way for helping eachother, and a nice way for learning with samples and artist feedback.
I would be glad if I can help a little more when my scenery starts to develop at higher level.
Thank you all for comments.

As i see it on this forum there are people who have go at final image right from the start, i usually don't work that way. I have an idea but it is by no means the final idea yet.
Usually i start working on parts first, there several types of ships in the final image, and there is no way i will be able to make those all together in go. So those will be seperated from each other until i start working on the final image.
The story has to develop, and so does the work that comes with it :)
And that's what i like about this challenge, submitting a final image without a background story, without sharing of ideas, without showing progress is only half a picture.

Unfortunately, I must leave the Challenge because of my projects that came out lately.
I am working on animated short movie for national television, and it must be "on air" on new year's eve. Besides that, I am about to start one wonderful freelance project, so I need to organize myself in order to produce best quality possible framed with deadlines I have now.
I wish you all a good luck and huge amount of inspiration on this challenge.
See you all on next challenge...
