I'm gonna take a guess and say it's a fort/city on a floating rock which is a cool idea, what are you going to have in the mid/foreground? Nice painting style as well mine always look so damned messy.....

Story

In a distant future a meteor passes close to the planet and opens a magnetic portal that join a parallel universe. Step by step the entrance vanishes keeping the two worlds together.
This parallel world in the past awoke the people's mind to things like wizards, dragons, unicorns, etc. Now the magic and high-tech features share the same moment.

Hiya there! Good progress I see :) :bounce:

In my opinion, to get rid of the "emptiness" in the picture, you can add some sort of eagle view of a terrain, like some sort of land instead of water :D

Work in your proportions as the island and the flotating fortress looks like they both are the same size.

The waves in the water/ocean tell me that the island is pretty close to the camera, therefore that will be the biggest object in the scene (so far)

the biggest flotating/fortress is too close to the water, therefore it makes it look too small.

I would add more clouds, and give the scene a different atmosphere color / ambient light.

I would sit somebody close to the camera and have him/her sitting on some sort of bridge that is going to go from one side to the other.

This is only my personal opinion you do not have to follow my critic :D

----------------------------

Regarding the pictures, you are using a personal server to host this images. I think is better if you submit your artwork through CGTalk, beside you have to submit sketches for the milestorm (i dont know if I spelled right that word)

-Cheers!
-Keep the good work!

Thank you... I liked yours comments, and I'll apply some of them in my project.

I decided starting production for the sea, because I never work with water in 3D. Here this the result of my first tests.

hey gkdesign .. welcome to the fun ... your english works for me ...i like the idea of the original story , mixing two worlds, two cultures

as far as the water ... it depends on your scale .. the sketches show large city/things in water .. the water right makes the city/thing look small scale ... and that surface texture is a little too noisy .. but you have just started and i'm sure you have much more tweakin to do

good luck, have fun

thanks pigwater!!
I am really happy for you to like my idea.
The sphere doesn't participate of the scene. Is just a simulation of something in the water.
In the next test I will go to try to adjust noise.
