Hello,
this a study about a strange creature, the lamia. A woman who stole young child.
I was inspired by Fuseli, Kubin & Redon.
Perhaps I'll work on new image with the same charactere.
Thank for feed back.

Forgive me for saying so, but the baby looks a little creepy. I looks like a tiny large headed man. Was that intentional? I like the lamia, though. Nicely rendered.

Thank for comment... about the baby, it's intentional. I want that he appears between a monkey, an old man, perhaps like an zombi. I know, it's a morbide vision.

Actualy I work on a second version, with news hands and an other technique.

I like the concept...My critique however, is that before you go looking to create works or provocative nature, with mutations on the human form, you should get a working understanding of the natural underlying structure...I find it real helpful to find models for my work, references are the key...Get yourself an anatomy book with good pictures, or find images online to use...All the greats use references, so dont feel like your cheating! Keep up the good work!

Hi

I'm agree with you Mindkontrol, i'm workin' on... have you see my pinup & sabrina in this forum ? the Lamia is just a sketch, i'm trying to create a monster that seems sensualy & evil...
This the new version. What do you think about it ?

idunno if you can acheive sensual with such a grotestque body...i'd suggest making it more supple and healthy looking.

You are right. I travel false. I keep the idea, but I will start again to improve the image and to obtain the mixture wanted between the sensuality and the horror. I wonder only if it is necessary that I preserve the idea of the hand at the place of the feet. I find that it is a good idea, rather original, but perhaps that that done too monstrous.

Hi,

I have reconsider my work, I try to follow your tips. The anatomy is more respected (I hope). I based on the real wings of bat. The problem about the wing is that bat's wing are dependant of the legs... and I havent respect this. I hope this drawing is better than the first version.
Thank for feed back.

Hi, I'm working on a coloured version. Some problem with wing, I havent found the right technic... perhaps like dragon's wings... but how can do this ?

yeh maybe redo it so that the joint where the 4 wing bones meet is at the shoulder and the wings span the ength of her "arms"

Really great, the new body update looks much better. I think the reason that the arm wing area looks so weird is because the forearm is way too long. If you outstretched the arm a bit more i think it could work. Good coloring job so far as well

Thank you.
I would like conserer the elements which make the image strange (leg-arm and arm-wing of bat). I wonder whether the proportions of the leg-arms are good. I still wonder if the symmetry of the two wings does not give to the image an aspect one can too fixed. I continue to work on the wings to give them a membranous aspect comparable with the wings of a dragon.
The continuation in some time.
Thank you to follow my work.

This the final concept, I think. Not the final picture but just the idea, it's to show the way of my job.

What do you mean about this concept ?

Hi,
this the new version of my work.
I reconsidered the body, the legs, the shoulder (her right shoulder) & the posture of her right arm. Work on the right wing to obtain a membranous aspect... I think that the braking of the symetry take more life (!) to the character.
Your opinion is welcome.http://www.delta-zone.com/~fc4d/images/joelafrite_lamiav415.jpg

Nice work, only one thing to suggest.

The wings, they don't look as if it could use them to fly, they look as though they are too slack and would flow in a breeze like a curtain. I donno, maybe it's just me.

Thanx Yerxa,
You're right, the curtain looking of the wings is a problem. I'had this impression to...
But I don't know what can I fix this problem.
If someone can help me...

Maybe using this sketch as a guideline might help. You might want to try tightening up (so to speak) the skin over the section of the wing closest to body, maybe even attacting the wing to her side.

Thanx Yerxa... I know this pic.. . My problem is more about the membranous texture and transparency of wings.

This the last update, problem with her left leg I think... Difficult indeed...http://www.delta-zone.com/~fc4d/images/joelafrite_lamiav419.jpg

wow this has come on a lot. looking good. her wings look a bit like curtains now where they are slack, dosen't look bad, but it looks a little like she's wearing a costume. not as realistic as they did before. the right wing looks much better now it's dipped a little.
