View Full Version : final cut and image sequences... why not?
uncon 10-21-2004, 07:32 PM Why can't I import a sequentially numbered image sequence into Final Cut Pro? Is there some freaky hard coded reason why this feature is not fully implemented? In the manual there is a workaround, it's obvious that FCP has to be able to do this to be functional. Why can't it be implemented?
I like FCP, but this has me stumped.

Why?...I don't know. It seems that every other NLE can. Hopefully in the next release of FCP, they'll implement it, (especially now that they own Shake). I know that has been one of the most requested feature. Maybe because it was rooted mainly for video but now has evolve? I know that it has to do something with quicktime somehow.
Anyways you could import the images as one frame durations and nest that into its own sequence (however sometimes I export the movie and have weird problems) or open the image sequence in quicktime and export it into a quicktime clip. It's an extra sucky step, but I guess it makes editing clips easier.

Having your sequence as a video clip does make it easier to edit, that's why they should let me import my image sequences as a video clip! I hear ya about that extra sucky step though, I have been opening my image sequences in quicktime pro and saving as a referenced video (I think that's what it's called) where it makes a .mov file that's really small and references all the images in the sequence.
Apple Quicktime can do it... a $30 program.
Why can't Final Cut Pro do it... a $999 program
silly.
