okay, my next post will have a thumbnail shot of the scene i plan on painting, but the basic premise is this:
An epic battle is about to take place as two forces converge on one another.
main points of interest will be, of course, the approaching fleet itself, but moreover a lonely space station that is caught in the middle of what will soon become a massive cloud of violence. I havent decided if im going to paint the picture from the perspective of the station itself, or something more 'detached' so you can see everything. too bad i can't do multiple entries :\
next post will show some thumbnailing hopefully

This is just a thumbnail to sortof outline my composition.. i'll probably do quite a few of these until i find one that will give me the mood i'm looking for.
ignore the 'xwing-esque' silhouettes, just using them as placeholders for this composition test.

here's a space station sketch... going with something 'platform like' to really give it a neutral look. the final result should allow anybody to look at the painting and say "hey- that's a neutral structure.. they're caught in the middle of something".
this station i picture as being a depot for supplies, maybe a bar/cantina or something inside.. just a little pitstop type place for galactic freighters and smugglers.

I like the idea of the neutral station, and I think that a bar will completely give it a neutral look, it's a very good idea, but you'll have to watch out that your spaceships don't look like they are going there for beer:beer:

hah, good point!
I'll have some 'early skirmishes' happening off in the background, and also the foreground elements (if i go with the first design i posted.. still not sure if i'm liking that one or not) will be aggressive looking fighter-style ships. on the planetscape below i'm considering adding some chaos there as well.. "dogfights" in the atmosphere.. perhaps an invasion has started and the ships in the foreground are rushing in to defend the planet. we'll see where it goes when i do some more thumbnailing...

Hello ...I was wondering why you need the space station to look like it's neutral...how does that help with the design of your piece...just curious
