View Full Version : Old anim I finally finished
JakobWelner 10-20-2004, 11:36 PM Hey folks.
I started this animation as the first anim I ever did but 'finished' it only today about 2 years later and i've only been making an ending that suits. Hate these unfinished projects, but they seem to stalk me everywhere I go.
Anyways. Here goes
http://www.hankoe.biz/jakob/show/playBlast_animation01_67.avi
It is compressed with Maya's cinepack directly from playblast and it's about 8 mb.

First off, I think you did a great job with the guy beginning to lift the rock and can't get it off the ground. It looks very good. But there were 3 things that stood out:
1. I think it looks really awkward when the guy comes to a stop after sliding in. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is...hopefully the others guys here can.
2. When he first gets the rock off the ground, it looks like he's leaning back against a wall that's not there. In real life, I think he would've fallen over backwards.
3. After he falls backward, his legs go in the air and back down. Again, that motion's a little weak. I think it's because it's a bit slow. I also think it's because the feet just stop when they hit the ground. Add a little follow through like having the feet bounce just a bit when they hit the floor.
Good luck!

From what Andini said
1) I think his stop needs a bit more easing in, imo
2) Richard Williams made a good point in animating things with exaggerations, make his back arch more when he fisrt lift the rock, opposite of the bend he used to grab the rock
3) nothing to comment on, he hit it on the dot when he said to follow through. He looks like a clay figure that has fallen: when clay hits the groudn it usually doesnt bounce, it just stops.
Its better then anything i can animate myself right now, you do have the a good perception of wieght, keep it up.

Hey.. what's up.. I would suggest adding a hop between the run and the slide to help with that transition. I hope that makes sense? 1.) Running - 2.) Hop/anicipation - 3.) Slide/catching weight of the character.?.. also this is real silly but i love it when the ball rolls off his chest at the end.

Hey and thanks for the critique guys.
I have finished the animation now, so I finally can proceed to some other new projects without having to clean old mistakes all the time.
I've changed som poses and a bit of timing. Hope it turned out the better.
