I went for the diplomatic shot, complete with press!

The peaceful surrender of an un-named general of an un-named enemy, accompanied by two guards, surrendering his show-piece commanding sabre to his opposition equal, above the Logo of the Interstellar Confederate which is emblazoned on the plush carpet (not well represented in the concept sketch)

I decided to opt for non-action, yet dramatically symbolic piece which is based in reality. My inspiration comes solely from Band Of Brothers when the German commanding officer offers to surrender his side-arm to Winters.

It was a really impressionable scene to me, the quiet contrast of peaceful symbolic action to the prologuous (is that even a word?) bloodshed of war.

Nice idea - hope it isn't too static for comp.

The light should create a really good impact in this image.

Thanks for the comments guy. I decided to do another concept, I actually prefer this one over the previous.

It is DDay of the largest galactic battle the universe has ever known (corny, I know, but hey thats the theme :)), I decided to show an intimate moment between a high ranking general and his rookie flyboy son as he is about to embark on the main aerial assault.

I'm using a similar camera angle to the previous concept, its a fairly dynamic sort of pose, the general resting a reassuring and worried hand around his son's neck as he presents him with a family military heirloom for good luck as he is about to climb into his cockpit.

The back ground will be busier than it is in the concept, used to convey imminent action, people dashing everywhere with artillery etc, and I will likely use a long exposure type effect to show motion and frenetic action and doubles as a method of reducing the points of focus in order to lead the viewer's eye to the centre where the human touch is most evident.

I'll use a short depth of field to focus on the two men in the picture, hence the background and foreground will undergo some blurring. The shadows on the ground will show sillouettes of unseen fighters in flight overhead, and will be mirrored on the pilot's reflective visor as well to suggest mass artillery movement.

A large symbol of the military will be placed on the ground.

Wacom + Photoshop 7.0, 30 minute composition sketch, no references (although the meme of Han and Luke from SW should be fairly obvious ;)).

A quick update, just doing bits and pieces when I got time.

Loose penciled to start finalising the details, working on it bit by bit, will start with the characters first:

Almost finished the Helmet...

Close up of the details without any pencils.
