Better and better, nice done. But i can very easy spot that this is a skylight lightning, no reflections, no direct shadows.flat colors.
But the snail is ok.

Baby: non, cochin est le surnom que je donne a un copain, il s'agit évidement d'un private joke.
Je citais le film (les bronzés f. d .s) a cause de ta réplique "copain comme cochon", qui est un moment clé du film.
Darkone2652: yes, it's a real problem. I working on more complex light, right now.
I finally don't wont the slug too slimy, the specular reflect gets too much attention.

Troubles and problems with this one, cyclopean rendering times, crashes, etc, etc.
I've finally divide the pilot/cockpit in three different layers, to finalize a render.
The glass will be rendered apart.

Hey texxx just wanted to drop by and let you know that you are doing a great job. Love what you have done with the characters. I just have one suggestion that might be a nitpick but I'm going to tell anyway and see what you think.
I think that the cloud behind the foreground slug alien becomes distracting because it takes almost the shape of the outline of the slug alien, almost like an aura. you might want to consider to change the cloud shape a bit. Also some of the missle contrails far in the background look a bit cartooney, I guess it's because the lines are too perfect, break them up a bit and see if how you like it.
Anyway, keep up the good work.

New light makes this even better - and the tothpick is soo cool, love it! Your work has been amazing from start - congrats!
si c trop tard, j'ai maté que les zimages...
ce qui aurait pu etre cool c'est un leger fog dans le canion...pour donner un peu de profondeur entre le bas et le haut...
it would have been cool to give little bit of depth to the canyon to add a slight layer fog...

hi, amazing work and composition ... I hope there will be some textures on that nearest ship - the hull and seat look too clean
only one more thing - you could open his eyes more, it`s a very nice texturing job, and it should be seen
btw, have you considered to make his clothes a little slimy around the neck ?

I really like your textureing, but I'm not sure about your background. I would say it's not giving me any strong sence of mood, as well it seems in a different league of detail.
What would happen if you had a couple thin layers of clouds, then a distance fog? As well, adding color to the clouds or fog, making it look closer to sunset could enhance it.
Cool looking alien.

One of the best I've seen! Beautifull.
Just one little observation...in the left corner ( or right corner, since the image was flipped ??)
you can see the polygon division slightly. It's a detail though...
Good work!!

Hi texxx,
Just wanna say i totally agree with dimitri's comment. All my respect for you and your work.
I have a suggestion too, may be you should add more slugs troopers on the ground, cause I think there are too much empty space for a battle area.
I also think you should follow balistic's comment regarding the shadows cast by the clouds on the ground in order to add more depth in your image.
Good luck, boss :D

hey mate ...your work is really great...vry nice compo and models and textures and etc!

i just think that missiles need a dense smoke trail ...but is the only advice i can give to your incredible work:arteest:
keetmun
01-15-2005, 02:11 AM
Yes i agree with Jeremy on this one. I think the smoke trails could be made darker, more smoky. I can see a bit of the trails, but they seem diminished by the clouds behind.
Cheers!

Fred, your idea is so cool and funny. And the way you put it into 3D, man, it`s like a snapshot from a movie.

Wow, man! Awesome entry! What I've seen 3D-entries, this is definately my favourite one! :) Only thing that bothers me a little is that you didn't use whole possibly image aspect ratio for it. I really like the alien pilot and that fat ship on the right is cherry on the top.

I would like to ask you a question if you dont mind : those textures you used
for the skin of the pilots and for the main ships : are they entirely handpainted
or did you use procedurals, too ? I guess lots of people here are curious if
you could reveal a bit about the techniques used / developed by you.
Kind regards [tom]
texxx
02-15-2005, 01:17 PM
the textures are 95 % handpainted.
The remaining 5% is photos, and some procedurals for the bump channel of the slug pilot.

Excellent entry - truly top notch.
The idea, composition, modeling, texturing, lighting, execution all perfect.
Only crit that I can offer you is that I think if you were to add motion blur to the objects in the distance like the missiles and a few ships, it'll really bring this peice to life - right now it has a very stationary feeling.
