About the design of the toes, I thought that it would be interesting in animation, but this is not the final issue !
Perhaps I will do some change while I model it...
And what about the Alien ?
He will have an agressive look in the composition, because he will shoot the soldier with no sense of pity ! Maybe he will have sharp teeth and dribble on them !

The concept is an alien who drives the robot is about to shoot the human soldier...
A simple history in a war...

dig the robot concept... I'm not too sure about the toes tho', maybe take them out.
that alien looks cool, I can imagine him laughing while making mayhem

gpepper
10-21-2004, 03:25 PM
exactly, that's what i was thinking about... Perhaps the angle of view should change to have a more dynamic scene...
The robot will probably be a mix between machine and flesh... It should be better...
What ? Someone said that I enter the wrong challenge ? Is it too late ?

Hehehe...it's ok u are on the right one....u stilll need , i humbly suggest , except the 2 characters that look cool( i dig the human space suit ...i imagine it with a lot of metal chrome :lightbulb ), u have to thing a grand room or an open space with something Hitech behind...just to justify more the Grand Opera feeling..i think! :)
By the way...i said it and i will say it again...Your Avatar is killing me man....i envy that small picture :bounce:

THX Bubble master !
You're right, If I had the time, I will Frame the view larger to see more the background and the fight between the alienbots and the human soldiers... perhaps some Space ship in the air...
About my avatar , this is a small vinyl "figurine" created by Michael Lau... You can see it and buy it on http://www.figuro.com .
Maybe one day I'll do it in 3D ! It will be fun ! and not difficult !
Thanks again my friend !

Pfeiffer.................hello.I have a suggestion....................I think it might be best for you to have a robot control a robot against the humans................the reason is that in the instructions for the challenge they say this: "We are not looking for pictures of flying saucers, green humanoid aliens or spacemen with laser blasters."..............
I am only here to mention this to you in case you were not familiar with this rule and instruction.Of course in the end you should do as you feel.................
But with bots and humans and space vessels all will be well, thus I have suggested you go with 1 bot riding another against those poor humans.............
I hope I helped in some way.All the best to you.

Pfeiffer.................hello.I have a suggestion....................I think it might be best for you to have a robot control a robot against the humans................the reason is that in the instructions for the challenge they say this: "We are not looking for pictures of flying saucers, green humanoid aliens or spacemen with laser blasters."
Michael, you're right !
Perhaps I didn't see the subject very well...
DimitrisLiatsos told me to make the picture wider, and I agree with that...
While I was sketching first I thought it will be cool to have a closest scene of a space fighting, but this is not the subject, in this case Cgtalk wouldn't call the challenge "Grand Space Opera" !
I think that concept will be the front scene of the composition and in the back there will be some other robots and humans fighting each other, while space ships bombard all around...
Let's see If I had the time...
but the point I wanted to reach is finishing this "green" alien , who could be blue, and the Bot he will ride...
Virtuoso
10-23-2004, 10:34 AM
Pfeiffer........................I believe the point is they do not want any aliens.................green,blue,yellow,red.....any! Of course this is up to you,I just wanted to help you out in case you missed this point.................perhaps you can create bots riding bots against the humans.........................And do an alien on a side project?
I like your alien,it is just that the rules and instructions are pretty clear on this. But again,I am just here to help if I can.it's all up to you of course...............All the best to you,I will keep an eye out for updates,Until then take care..............
gpepper
10-23-2004, 10:50 AM
I don't think it's "forbidden" to make an alien riding a bot...
Why in a space conflict there would not have any alien ? If you take the example of Star Wars, there are lots of alien, every where... And nobody feels this is strange... Why could there not be any alien in a "Grand space opera" contest ?
I understand what you are talking about, but I have an idea and I would like to keep it until the end... I don't have the time to do several projects at the same time...
If I'm out of the subject, it's not important, I would have done what I thought it was the best...
Please, call me Gil

Hi Gil......................... I understand,I am all for aliens,I like them, they are fun and interesting for sure.I just wanted to point these instructions out to you for this praticular challenge.I always think it's best to do your thing, and what your heart tells you,.......So have fun ,create a wonderful alien army with there bots, and god save the Humans.....................Best of luck to you,I'll check up on you as time goes...............:)

Yeah... I find this alien truely simpathic... not to much alien but near us... near human... before humans, before monkeys... the origin... :D
When I read the previous posts... I understand one think -> I've don't understand clearly the subject... and I don't know if it's more clear for me... definitively......... I'm not very good for the other language than mine...

Good progress on the alien! Just remember to give him the epic scene that he deserves!

Hebut i'm just a little curious, what's the story in this scene? Is there any relationship between these to fighters?
What do you mean ?
The alien is the driver of the Mecha, and he is about to shoot the human soldier...
At the background, there will be , probably, another mecha on fight, one spaceship which will be the mecha's transporter, and If I had the time, far far away a city rising from the ground...
Didn't sketch it at this time but it will be done in a few days !

I think the alien can be slim... no prob... maybe there's not too much things to eat in the space... but I think anyway that he can have a style more nervous... in particular on the level of the articulations... You may certainly exaggerated some details will be needed, so that they are really seen...
Bon courage pour la suite Gilles :bounce:

Lemog
10-31-2004, 08:51 AM
Yes... I think he must have some reliefs more harder... maybe done with vessels or muscles... or like I said before, with articulations more visible...
For the moment he miss some volume and some details.
You must always thinking that your alien have a common point with us... He have, a real skeleton and muscles, maybe with differents proportion than humans, but it was this parts who model his aspect... that we see, it's only the skin enveloppe.
I wait the following Gilles

Thanks !
The cockpit should change, it will become bigger and will look like closer to a spider's body, with machine guns and reactor boosters...
Another point:
The more this challenge goes the less I think my first sketch is a good idea !
I have a new concept:
As my mecha looks like a spider, I decided to model a big Webspaceship. This spaceship will be the mothership where an army of spidermechas will fly to attack a planet...
What do you think about that ?
Saschi0815

I like your way of thinking and using Nurbs for the body...but be carefull with trimmed surfaces...u might end up with some heavy geometry for no reason...i can't see it i n views..but u've trimmed the surfaces or u just projected curves on spheres to make the fillets..if so ..forget my observations about trimming ....
Cool work my friend and very smart design on it !

hi...i love your alien character modeling...is a nice little green man....about the spider...i think is ok...the modeling look pretty clean...i have just a little comment...i think the back part of the spider is a bit big...maybe u can move the legs closer to the center of the spider so it get balanced....well maybe is not necessary ...is just my point of view...but i think youre doing a nice job...and youre working fast and smooth...keep on this good way...and good luck man!...ill be watchin u!

Just stopping by to say I like the work you are doing, and that I agree with rattlesnake 100%......The legs should be moved at least slighty, and the back end of the body should be made smaller......These are relatively nit-picks,just trying to give some help here if possible...................Doing really well Pfeiffer............:arteest:

Thats a great design you have there. As it is mechanical, the segments that attach the bodyparts would be mobile, allowing it move each part (an example would be the joints on deep sea diving suits). Im wondering if this could be emphasized with some modelling?

Gilles, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. What I commented on, thow a very minor detail, was that each segment of the body looks welded, and thus stationary. What I was asking was if you could do something about this, or perhaps you prefere it like it is. I was not suggesting that you should rigg it :D
To further clarify, this link below will show you what I am refering too, with a simple example.
