View Full Version : Some wings questions

Just started using wings this week, so far VERY impressed with just about everything in it. I have a few questions that would help me out if people know?

1) Is it possible to use tweak mode (including the magnet controls) but move vertices along their normal rather than relative to the camera. Would be great. I use a hotkey in Maya to toggle between move normal and world space when pressed.

2) I can't seem to to get the UV editor window to open (currently on Linux), is this a bug, or am I doing something incorrect (just have a cube created and try to open it)

Thanks for any help

1) Nope, do you want that I guess it could be added..

2) Are you using the window/uv-editor, if so the cube must be selected
(and maybe it should be uv-mapped already, use uv-map commando from object menu instead)

Thanks for the reply.
If there was a normal move toggle when tweaking with magnets, it would be amazing. Vertices would 'inflate' alomg their normals with a dropoff, almost like sculpting in artisan/zbrush I guess.
I am still in awe of the selection methods of wings with selecting ring or loop. Maya can only do this through a 3rd party script. (MJPolyTools)

There is one way to move the vertex/edge/face along it's normal with a dropoff.

Select the vertex/edge/face, Right click, Click Move, While holding ctrl, right click Normal. So now you perform a advanced magnet mode for moving along the normal. All you have to do, is define the anchor point for the falloff and execute! Poof! It moves along the normal with a falloff.

Remember, in the info bar you can use different modes for the falloff, like "Bell", "Spike", "Dome", etc.

Hope that helped. O_o

He means with the tweak tool so you can sculpt ala zbrush,if I can say so.That'd be good.

Ahh...Sorry about that.

Though, you could use that method too. It's much slower though.

It would be awesome to see a feature like that in Wings. :D

Mr. Dgud, it would be really great to move vertices along their normal with tweak tool!!! :bounce:

That would indeed be an awesome feature!

Though! With an option to turn it off and on! :p

Thanks for replies on this topic, I'm using wings at work now as well as Maya. This tweak along normal thing would still be amazing, if its possible at all for future releases.

eg

Enter tweak mode and hit 'N' any tweaks on components are along their normals, hitiing N would turn it back to the current mode.

I must say the silde edge feature is amazing, its helping me out a great deal with some models I have to do here.

Thanks

Ben

I didn't manage to make the 'tweak along normal' work good enough, it will not be included
in the next release.

You failed?! BAH! What can't you do anything right? (Just kidding. :p)
Meh! oh well.

When is the next release, Dgud?
If i'm not mistaken, Bjorn (Might be mistaken) said "It will be ready, when it's ready."

Oh...Wait, was that just ID Software?
Meh! I'm confused now.

Glad to hear that the new release is being mentioned though. Wonder what new surprises await in the new one. :D

So you're pulling us a George Broussard! :)

Heh...
At least he's trying. That's more programming than I could ever do. (Only thing I know about Erlang is that I need it to run Wings3D.)

Besides, we get to hear back every now and then. It sometimes might be a while before hearing back from the Wings crew, but we're not kept in the dark. They still have a better track record than most software companies.
