What is a "hoax"?

TheTon

A hoax is an act or story intended to deceive or trick someone..

For example, some would say that the story of the Roswell spaceship is an elaborate hoax...

Or the Turin Shroud...

Or putting Britney Spears face onto a nude picture...

All hoaxes...

Oh how quickly you change...just last week you were madly in love with Kirsten Dunst! I guess since she dumped you, you are now chasing Brittney? How sad.

I googled "hoax" and found this:

http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/HBHoaxIndex.html

It lists lots of different hoaxes, email scams, urban legends, etc.

BTW, is anybody interested in dressing their avatars for Halloween? I've got my costume!

P.S. My sympathies for the whole Dunst scandal thing.

aghill: Funny. Very fitting. Beaker has always been one of my favorite muppets!

I turned in a suggestion for the Halloween week theme for "Avatar Halloween Costume Party" so don't blow all your ideas just in case it pops up as a sketch of the day theme! Love the suit and cloak ilikesoup...not sure exactly what that is on your head MustardWash, but its a fun idea!

Well, this was supposed to be a trojan horse, but unfortunately he came out looking more like a trojan llama. Bit of a tenous connection to the topic too! :/

My physics teacher used to say that if you want a gravity-defying object you need to attach an open-faced sandwich onto the back of a cat. Rule: sandwiches always drop face down and cats always drop feet first.

robinayles>>OMG! hahaha! Amazing. I knew it. You know I got a bit suspicious when she started commenting other girls when we were out on the town. You know "Nice rack on that one" and all that. I didn't want to believe it.
And when she french kissed Paris Hilton I thought that " hey, many people have kissed Paris Hilton, not a biggie". I did find it a bit strange with all the "girlfriends" that she had coming over on "slumberparties" all the time, but now I know, now I know...

Mustardwash>> Thanx. The whole Dunst Spears thing is depressing me. It turned out that Spears was accually at one of those "Slumberparties".
I'm dating Téa Leoni now. More mature. Shhhhh, don't tell Duchovny....

half hour in PS7....I wanted to try something in Rockwell's style, but I couldnt get to it yesterday....thought i would carry it forward to the hoax. Actually turned out way better than I had any right to expect for a half hour with no ref.

Thanks Roberto by the way for the good motivation.

Aghill: Dang, that's funny stuff! I don't know how "hoax" connected it is, but I don't care. Muppets always win in my book.

been sitting on the sidelines too long so i thought i would have a shot. please excuse the time this took, this is my first digital sketch and basically i spent just about the whole time trying to figure out how to draw in the digital form, i think i kinda got there in the end after a long struggle. prob took around 7 hours in photoshop with a mouse :scream:

great work all, inspiring stuff, hopefully i'll start participating a little more:thumbsup:

all very nice sketches! I must get me one of these Wacom's quickly.

sempiternal, I would so go for that as well...free beer dude... woohoo :)

I like the perspective you chose, it gives a nice sense of depth to the illustration. Maybe the lettres on the TV are a bit too sharp, or the transition from sharp to blurred could be a bit more subtle...but i'm really picking here. beautiful image!

i'm new to these fora, but a long time visitor. I was wondering if alll these are made by only using the brush tool in PS (or similar programs), or is it also fine to use some of the other tools while creating these sketches like blending modes, gradients and such?

grtz

thanks for the comments b_d, i agree totally about the text, it actually was bugging me heaps but i just run out of time to get a chance to make it look seamless within the image so i just had to make do, but yeah your definitely right, thanks for the feedback.

in regards to methods i'm really new to drawing like this so i'm not to sure what the best approach is either. i think a lot of these guys just draw it out with brushes, sometimes the smudge tool as well  i think taron333 mentioned a little bit about one of his methods back in 'when saints attack'. if you have a look through these threads i'm sure you'll come across some people sharing techniques. i guess just figure out what feels best for you through trial and error.
