:)
dynamic one, if you are about to make this one looks metalic try to join some great colors to land that meets the constructions. be sure you give background same attention, make vast and give perspective look to it.
good luck,
very nice keep up.

the story:
2010 ufo's are accepted like a reality for the whole humanity, they are everywhere in the sky 2011the empire fell down under his own weight some of the elite escape in the moon & mars
2012 the "x" planet "nibiru hit the earth as the maya profecy...
a new moon take place in the sky,the poles are inverted...
only the people in the mountains survive about 15% of the human race
2030 the sun is back again...
the community is free and start the reconstruction using the magneto-hydro-dynamic (old military technology)and mixing with all motors and vehicules still working.. under the direction of indian architects for the respect of mother nature and in peace with aliens
who accept us like new members of the interdimensional community.
this scene is about 2044 during the hard works of reconstruction somewhere in the ex-south america early in the morning.

Mathieu......................I think the earlier sketches would be my pick.As I mentioned they were and are wonderful.................As for the whole earth thing......................I think you can counter this little problem by setting up your Space Opera by calling it a Planet far,far away, not too different than our little Planet called earth.....................A Space Opera theme can still be there for you.Look at Star wars, lot's of it is similar to what we have here......And last I heard Star wars was a galaxy far far away...............;)
Just keep it coming,very promising concept.Cool too.

Super bacan!!! me encanta tu trabajo.
suerte!!
For non spanish speakers:
Really cool. I love your work. Youve got a good hand in sketch drawing, as well as mof modelling. I also think that you should focus a little bit more in the main theme: Grand Space Opera-that means a futuristic place. I think im in agreement with the wooden house, I dont feel it fits correctly.
Another thing, man! youve got until january to do your work...dont hurry yourself too much
good luck

Super bacan!!! me encanta tu trabajo.

You know, Ive noticed something, the busses seem only floting in the air instead of flying. But I imagine this would be worked in post production right? The texturing is very good..keep it going.
Another thing, maybe it is only me, but I notice the composition kind of "Heavy" for my eyes...maibe it is the lighting or the dark textures...well anyway

This is good work so far, I love your style.
But I really have a problem with the bus in the foreground. Though the bus is nicely stylised and quite funny, I don't think it's in the same (really cool) style as the background. Also, the bus in the foreground seems to jut out like a sore thumb, and I think it breaks the composition, making the whole image too cluttered. The city in the background makes for a pleasant, dynamic composition from top left to bottom right, but the bus in the foreground disturbs that. Maybe without the bus the bottom left corner might be too empty, but as it is I feel it's letting the picture down...
but this is just my opinion- I like the image and just wanted to give my two cents

Cool, I like your strong attachment to your original story about flying busses, but maybe you could even incorporate some more aspects of a flying object to the bus..for example make the tires (llantas) horizontal looking like turbines that elevate vertically your bus...

In the beginning this was one of my favorites, but to be perfectly honest the coloring has spoiled it for me. That's probably the most harsh crit I've given to anyone, but that's what I'm thinking.
That said, I do love the coloring you just added to the bus. The blue and brown are really cool. The mountains are real nice and the gray color of the foreground images are great. I think the problem is the middle ground images. They just blend in with everything. I think you could think about a range of a different hue for that section, to visually separate it from the mountains. If I were you, I'd take that into Photoshop, lasso that whole middle ground section as one piece, make some copies of it on different layers, open the 'Hue/saturation' tool and party with that for a while. I think it's way too saturated and the brown makes it mush together with the mountains in the background. I would definitly not start tweaking it in the 3d program until you do something you like in Photoshop to use as a guide.
You may want to tweak the water on a separate layer as you tweak the middle ground, so one doesn't influence the other too much, if you know what I mean.
Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

I agree with the color issue. You know, I also do painting, and I have the same problem. I have the same saturation and light in every layer, which makes the painting look flat rather than give the impression of depth. You should do those test to see what happens

It's coming along well Mathieu..........It's quite a complex set of models, and situation that calls for many textures of varying colors and blends......You will have to watch for too many colors at once, this can cause confusuion......I can see this come together texture wise now,it looks like you have good control of color balances.......I like your entry, and think that your doing a nice job of texturing a comples set of varying models.........Best bet would be to keep the different textures pretty much within the same color levels, just with minor tweaks, this way it will all blend in together well, while still giving you a nice seperate and independant color scheme................It's tricky,I'll just have to see more before I can be more constructive......Doing well, and I'll check back later...............:arteest:

11-19-2004, 03:28 AM
another thing you can try to help create depth is try some low key lighting, the lighting you have is very homogeneous and therefore flat, try spotlighting some very specifc objects in the background. and increasing the backlighton your foreground lights. also another trick we use in production is to gel(color tint) the lights when appropriate.
Saschi0815
11-19-2004, 10:33 AM
Hi Mathieu,
first of all i want to say that i really like your original entry.... ...with the colors I have to agree with the other above...the colors themself aren't bad - they suit the scene well, but imho there's no focus - the colors seem to be flat, 'cause there's less difference between them - so there is no point to look at (as a "sight-steering")....good idea from stork to play around with some lights (mainly the fill light) and especially the shadows to bring in some focus....
Looking forward to see updates... Keep it up...:bounce:

Wow, really like this concept, reminds me of oddworld somehow.
Could use a little more definition on the shack, assuming the front bus is to the same scale. There's something about the waterline where it meets the base of the spiral wind generator(?) that stands out as a little flat relative to the ripples. Really though, these are so minor that I hesitated to mention them, like all the images. Great work!

Hi... I really like your picture, it's everytime better!
My thinks about 3d...
The colors in your pic are a bit to greyly, I knew what you want to show with that, but I think you can try to play more with lights, colors and texturs. And maybe you will do something with
the sky, some clounds maybe or something like that.
All other thinks, like modeling, composition and so one, are fully ok.
So I'll stil waiting for your progress, and hope to see here some updates soon..

This is strange but cool idea. I like the colours and contrast. Probably the white is just a little to strong which immedialy draws the eyes to the empty space. You could probably tone it to a slightly lighter yellow near white background colour. All looking great so far.
Love the idea. Lose the GSO label, though when you submit your final.
Also, you might consider another color tweak where you try to have better color contrast. Warm colors in front, cool in back. Gives an even greater sense of depth. Right now, your image seems to all have the same sepia coloring.
