Simply select your object, right click, then convert to: "Editable Poly"
are U making fun of me ?!?
;)
what I would like is to edit a poly object for example after a morpher !!! by pressing a.... edit poly button !!!! and keep my stack of course !!!!
so I can edit 15 poly object at a time...(like facial exp)
I know how to convert an editable mesh to an editable poly !!!
:applause:
but thx flypaper !!!! maybe my question was not clear...
any other idea ?!?

what does edit poly do that is special?
well everything an edit mesh doesn't do :(((
when U start working with a poly why would U be forced to go back to edit mesh for certain stuff...not logic !!!!!

Theres no edit poly in max 5 from what ive heard.. just edit mesh again :( really sucks =/ i hope they put it in on their next update to max 5
anyway... nikodemus, edit poly would be a modifier like edit mesh.. where can u work with the stack making the first modifier in the list work first, then the second next, etc...
and some modelers use alot of edit modifiers making them like layers for ur model.. where in one modifier u change one thing.. and in the other u add something else..., etc.. dunno if i explained it right.. :p
and like baby said.. he'll use it with morpher.. probably to attach and weld a detach head with expressions to the body
cya guys
for the explanation...
yes a little receipe if you want to know :
when you have build a character and done some expressions...
if U want to modify something on it ?!
U can do it on all headz/objects...
or do it after a morpher (with sometimes some tweaking after)
You put you edit mesh after the morpher, make you changes...
then U copy 10 times your head if you have 10 morph targets,
and for each head/expression U put the morph channel at 100 %
then U just have to collapse all your heads, and U have your ten heads with all your changes !!!!
You can also do this with a FFD, if you have a finished character, and want to do another one from this one...you can put a FFD after the morpher, change his shape...and then again copy morph collapse ect ect ect...
another thing usefull with max stack,
to have very light morph !!!! is to do all your face expressions on your head, then add a morpher to morph them...
Then an edit mesh on the morpher where you attach your body !!!!! and then skin or bones pro !!!!
U will have only the head morphing, and not all the body !!!!!
So I would like to do this kind of stuff with poly tools, and getting poly when I collapse....
So no edit poly !?!?!? I wanted to be sure as I couldn't find it !!!!

Whilst Di$creet have made some commendable changes to Max since they inherited it... you do get the impression that they don't understand it or why a lot of the users like it, so along with their blanket refusal to fix many of it's problems, maybe it is time to look elsewhere because in spite of all their hype about listening to the users, many believe that is the last thing they do. :)

Xynaria I would have to completely disagree with your statement here, Discreet has done a lot of listening to what their clients want, just look at Max 5, there are a tonne of new additions that people have been asking for or that help your general workflow and productivity. Could we have further improvements, sure tere can, but as they say "Rome wasn't built in a day".

...discreet you ba....
I have to disagree also...the soft is in constant progression...even with stuff better than other one...
and they also took one of my recomandation when I was beta tester ;))) so I can't decently agree... Thx you lo...Discreet !!!!!
and from the script I saw yesterday...I think animation will be very soon at a very high level...
but hey !!!!!!!!!!! :((( want an edit poly please...
can someone do a plug ?!? :applause:

No, but Nurbs and particles have been ignored for over four years and thats just the tip of a very very big list. I don't know of anyone saying thankyou for ignoring them. :)
yup max Nurbs sucks...it's true...
for the particle...you can do good basic stuff with the one that exist...
then you have some very good (too complex for me) ones...
but it's true it could be better....(in the rendering of certain effects...and the real time)
