im going to state this allready from the beginning... i'm not here to win, so please no harsh comments... i've done 3d about 1,5 years, and to rate myself i would say i'm a moderate... and i'm here to learn from others, to see if i can finish a project as gargantuan as this, and to get critique hoping to learn something in the process :)

okey, perhaps it's time to post a story behind my whats going to be my final product...
here we go: The anayan people, who've been living in exile ever since their planet where destroyed by a gigantic spaceliving planet-devourer, so now they travel from world to world, mining resources of uninhabited planets, of which they build new ships and repair the old ones.
this time only, they've come to the wrong system, inhabited by an imperialistic and extremly aggresive race, with great battleships... and this scene is their final struggle... pretty classic, but i think it will be an interesting subject :)

OOO I dig it totaly! How did you do the plates on the second ship? Modeled or used a plug-in? Well anyway keep it up and good luck!

Hey, yeah that second ship looks really cool. Though I do have to say that the two ships looks like they are from a sperate fleet/race. Mostly because ones very smooth and the other one is boxy. Maybe they are supposed to be from diffeant places? Looks good thouhg. :) can't wait to see more.

okey... now that you mention it, i agree they dont look like they're from the same fleet... perhaps i'll trash the smaller ship, or perhaps i'm gonna re-texture it and add it to the defensive fleet... waddaya think? anyways the bumps on the bigger ship are made with greeble, a very powerful tool for making extrusions/insets... good for making cities also, as it has a built-in tool for adding little thingies on the top of the extrusions, making a very real-looking house... nothing for high detail buildings, but for giant metropolis'es and such, it's The tool, with a big "T" :) anyways thanks for the crits, i'm hoping that i can make some more interesting buildings and ships :)

A ship that helps smaller vessels closer to the enemy by hiding them behind the shield it generates, making them safer against fast artillery... then when the shieldship comes close enough to the enemy target, it simply turns back to base, and the fighters creates the mayhem of the decade :D

I'm with you as I'm not joining this contest to win either. But don't doubt yourself, you never know what might happen! However, in my opinion the best way to learn an artistic craft is by critique. Although I don't think anyone here will be harsh about it, I wouldn't fear a critique.

But to get back on topic, I like the second ships design a lot better than the first. Very nice work so far!

Damn, another "not-trying-to-win" competitor... This mean we'll be opponent :) This category is going to be crowded soon. (j/k)

Your 2nd ship design is really great (the light cruiser), you're showing how much details you can add in such a little time, that's impressive. Good luck, and believe in your talent :)

i put it here as i didn\'t know which cathegory it would fit in... anyways, here\'s my final light cruiser, complete with lighting, effects and videopost... also added some small turrets to the main body to make it more flexible in battle... if attacked by many small ships, those doomsday guns outta hell would be pretty useless :) anyways i always like crits, so keep em coming... if you think i\'ve missed something, don\'t be shy, just get it out :P

try to put some detailed textures on and it will be fine.

hm i have no idea how those would look... someone who can give me some inspiration?

edit: Whatever, i'll just try to draw some and see if they turn out good

Do not dispair, all fans o' mine :D the lack of posting the last few days is because of 1. Enormous amounts of schoolwork 2. The aftereffects of breaking up with my girlfriend 3. The hard work of desiding how to compose my scene... a primary concept of the scene look will soon enter this forum :)

until then!

Hey Hellspawned,

Your ships look great , instead of scraping the smaller fighter because its not similar in style to the larger ship. I would just tweak it and see how it goes. I liked your small fighter ,dont want to see it scraped.

Keep up the good work. Oh , I am in the same boat as you regarding the contest

Okey, i've been busy doing schoolwork for a good while, but i've come up with this idea: instead of the old one, where the watcher of the picture is an invisible third part, he will now take place in the battle as a member of the crew of one of the ships (haven't decided which armada it should belong to yet)... anyway, i think im going to stick to my old idea concerning how the terrain outside would look... shall i have more panoramic windows?

EDIT: I've now decided how to make the scene: I will add a partial body to the ship, visible from the window (which i will enlarge) and the battle outside. The concept of the scenes terrain and ship placement are almost complete and will show up here in a short while...

Your stuff looks great. Yeah, looks like you flow with it pretty
easily. I need to work on sci-fi stuff more. The last scene is very
cool. I like the idea of fighting from a calm position, like in a submarine.
I hope you stick with this concept, just because I wanna see more!

yeah well i think i'm gonna stick to the controlroom idea... now i just need to crowd it with people and gizmos... one thing though... can someone tip me on a free boolean plugin? i need it for controlboard and stuff... tried out the trial of powerboolean, worked like a dream... or so i thought until i saved and restarted the program... all powerboolean objects vanish every time you restart the program... and the common boolean operation makes any mesh inte A MESS... so if anyone've got a good free boolean plugin please tell me...
