Hello guys,

I wonder if there are book(s) or other resources covering animation for realistic style for film.
I found there are many books teaching cantoonish animation, i think they are very good for pixar/dreamworks style animation. But how about those animators who animate for realistic people/animal/creatures in ILM/Digital Domain? Are there any resources for them?

THanks in advance!!

a cartoon is just exaggerated reality. The same principles apply in rl as in cartooning for the most part, just on a more subtle scale.

Thanks,tukata.
So what is the most different point (you think) between animating cartoonish style and realistic style animation?

I may be wrong...but for realistic animation mocap is used...and then tweaked by animators to exentuate(sp) spots or just to smooth things out. Rotoscoping could be used as well. I have to agree though...exaggeration would have to be the seperation of the two. I would think generally exaggeration of the principles of animation would be dropped all together unless of course you're animating robin williams.:)

Remi, yes i know some productions used motion capture a lot for CG stunts, such as TROY and The day after tomorrow...but some productions also use keyframe animation.

It is sure that exaggeration is the greatest different between two styles. But i think there should be much more differences in the process.

Is there any animator who works for realistic style animation ?
