well I was trying to fix the problems with the cheek (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=172100&highlight=whoz) on the first member of the whoz, and I think itīs just the lack of practice.
so here is my second attempt on an other character. I tried to start with as less polys as posible and I think this way is better. but what I noticed is that I have to turn up the subpatch level in layout which leads to longer rendertimes. Iīll see whatīs gonna be the best overall solution in the end.

thanks. I took me a couple of tries to get there. I started with a box, but realized that I needed some custom made polys and some spin quads. Now I canīt remember how I did it :scream:

hereīs the next step

The feet were quite a contest :) especialy the connection to the body. Iīm not 100% satisfied. Letīs see how they deform.

todays progress:

Again quite a hassle with the connection between the wings and the body (need more practice on this kind of modeling stuff). I couldnīt extrude the wings from the back, so I modeled them in a seprate layler and then used the Bridge Tool. Lotīs of tweaking after that.

Just a little update (due to too much work on other not so pleasurefull 3D stuff).

I added the spikes on his back. I think, now itīs time for the eyes! :)

I'm not sure that spikes shuold be a -1 part with the body..

the main id and the character look very nice.. you will build a Scene soon?

thanks.
I know what you mean, but I'm gonna wait untill I get this guy animated and see what it looks like. Maybe I'll just change the surfacename to get an ink line there. here's the original picture (http://www.satzingerhardenberg.com/default_whoz.htm).

slowly evolving :)

Eyes & teeth. Didnīt think that making teeth could need so much tweeking. After messing around for a whlie I went back to step one and will try tomorrow again.

I finaly rigged this guy. Itīs my first rig only made in Layout (thanks to Splinegod and his video tutorial). The new bone tools are quite helpful. Still there are some No Nos. The Bone Edit Mode is a nice idea but useless because Layout crashes very often in this mode. The Detail stuff is very helpful still there could be some workflow enhancments and a integration into the undo chain would be very helpful :)
