I really like the spotted lights on the shadowregion on the planet. A good way to display advanced life. Curious about what the lines in the upper corner will be. Solar eclips? Looks great. keep it up.

Thanks zem, the moment i saw this challenge i had a mental picture a flash if you will, i already knew what to draw it bargles the mind lol :D alot of detail is going to be added to this image and i mean alot.

I've seen a lot of the entrys here but im confused, i thought the concept was Space Opera? you know Space. Maybe im wrong.

Hi ya roberto, I'm writing cause I also tought your "light" idea on the planet was clever, althought I do think you should have more lights on it....congratz do....

You might want to take a look at this link http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tutorials.html
for the starfield (and maybe even planet) in the background.
You might already know those, but :)

Good luck!

Thanks for the link

Hello

maybe your picture is over 1280 * 1024.
As I remember max file size shouldn't be above 150 Ko.

Like phase1 wrote the link to http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tutorials.html will be very useful. I think your starfield is a little bit too uniform.

Keep going on:thumbsup:

good sketches so far, make alot of them too, the more ship designs you do, the better chance you have at finding a really cool one. think about giving them interestng shapes. the one you have so far maybe could use some apendages.
good work and good luck!

Just making it look dramatic lol :D

Hillartsympho

thats a cool sketch, i like how the diagonal galaxy shapes draw your eye through the composition. i think a way that you could get the centerd planet to work would be to sort of "stack" elements on it, sort of like a movie poster composition, thinks like a hero and/ or heroine, villain, ships, and such. just an idea to think about.
the picture could have more harmony if you subtly distribute colors throughout. matt dixon is an artist who does this alot. you can look him up on Conceptart.org. like add a little teeny bit of green around in purple areas and vice versa.
nice job. good luck!

Well im still working on it, i want to give it a dramatic view of the destruction of paradise or something like it.

Kind of working on the story now as i destroy the planet :D obviously it is not planet earth as it is green lol or it could be after alot of years of pollution lol, anyways this planet has been target for extintion due to a mad scientist altering the inhabitants DNA code.
More will follow when i post next time as well as mad scientist and creatures sketches.

This is a small sketch of the inhabitants fleeing the scene of destruction. *Not the final ship piece* only a sketch lol

Man
like the image especially main explosion on planet. Not sure about perspective of some of the explosions on underside though -don't look as though they are following curvature of planet.
Good luck!

Thanks i see what you mean, most of it will be cover by space ships and cargo thanks

10-29-2004, 03:15 AM
Great job! I love the colours

Just a suggestion The rings could be stretched out towards the bottom rught of your image, that could draw the eye into the action on the left and the ships could have a more aggressive swooping/curve motion....just on idea :)

Peddy
10-29-2004, 03:18 AM
careful with all that though, if you have too many elements intersecting in that lower corner itll look extremely cluttered, to the point of distracting the viewer from what you want them to see.

cgtalkmember
10-29-2004, 05:34 PM
element5: thanks for the comments i really appreciated when it comes from a talented person as yourself

Peddy: It is true i dont want to flood everything down there but then again like element5 said that it will make the ships looks more agressive look to it :D

I need some input on the gas clouds on the back, i dont know if ill go with them or not.

ForestBlue
10-30-2004, 10:30 AM
Hm, I'm not so sure about the clouds, but as a suggestion maybe you could put some sort of satellite or something on the right side in the foreground..hm hm ah i don't know just trying to toss an idea into the mix, nice choice of colors thus far though.

Why not add a satellite and keep the clouds? :)

cgtalkmember
10-30-2004, 10:38 AM
GŁk: Thanks thats a very good idea, right now im just concentrating on the background before i can start adding ships and the likes.

cgtalkmember
10-30-2004, 10:40 AM
coCoKNIght: The thing with the satellite is that it will be too human like and this planet is far from human lol but thanks for the comment

Well i didnt like the clouds how they came out so started making new ones.

10-30-2004, 02:42 PM
Well, you talked about a mad scientist, perhaps you could add an artificial satellite or an observation station to control the native's development, just a suggestion keep up the good work

coCoKNIght
10-30-2004, 05:17 PM
I very much like the first nebulae, only it needs some more detail depth... The latest ones are too... tooo... I don't know, but I don't like them... make 'em more subtle...

This one has potential for me..... Maybe more transperant and the gas cloud could be a band further out around the planet. also a moon could be in the band of gas. Explosions at the bottom look great ...I think it was said before need to be more oliptical the ones near the horizon of the planet. Just some suggestions my friend. Keep em coming

Peddy

something about the image it itching at me. the planet doenst looks spherical enough, it looks to vertically stretched. its not i just checked in photoshop but i think the black border cutting off the bottom edge of the planet and how you have it imposed with the left border may give the appearence. see if anyone else agrees with me. i may just be imagining it =]

Thanks for all the info guys.

Peddy: I know what you mean, the picture bugs me too sometimes thats why im going with a different angle and concept.

Well i was looking at the image and it doesnt have that Space Opera potential so im re designing it, different camera angles a story for starters lol. I started drawing the characters [5] in total those are the ship crew.

[1] Captain Nem0 (The Captain)
[2] Brutus (The muscles)
[3] Hover (an AI bot)
[4] Doc (Doctor)
[5] Bruce (Mr. Hot Shot)
[6] Bubba (the Brotha) :D
[7] Old Timer (Janitor)
Thinking of adding a hot girl but i dont know?

They are what you call it space outlaws for hire, i will submit the sketches later on.

Nice renderings of the gasious plenet and stelar background. I would try to send the stars farther back and very it more. Theres seems to be too much of the same kind of stars
a milkyway like belt and some neublai would ad a nice touch to it. Lets see some alien technology..something MASSIVE, baybe a structure surrounding the planet or even a planet sized satelite orbiting the gasios giant. Some ships in the forground would be a nice touch as well as lend some more depth.

Good Luck. I'll see you around.

Interesting bunch! I was digging your previous work but I totally know what it is like to do a total 180 on a piece. If I doodle with something too long I fall out of love with it.

You have very interesting ideas, i was thinking of adding some floating pieces of broken asteroids or planets but then i changed my mind to another concept lol.

Jose Pardo: I know what you mean i guess i looked at my pcture for too long and then i didnt like it anymore so i had to do a 180 and start fresh.

Thanks for the comments guys it really does help me alot to improve on the next one.
