Turned the priest a bit to the right so he was facing the spaceship. I made the spaceship bigger and enveloped it in more clouds, making the whole thing more dramatic. I transformed the "light-cylinder" coming out of the bottom of the spaceship into a sort of twister which adds more dynamism. I am satisfied with this spaceship design I won't change it anymore. It will still get more detail, though.

Thanks for all the comments, as always.

You've changed your painting alot but the final peace is going to be nice it seems. Nice colors and mood. Keep it up.

Hey Andi!

Great job with the priest! It definetely looks like he's facing the incoming menace of the war armada...

My crits at this point is precisely the war vessel... I like your latest design in almost everything, except for the huuuuuge windows! Imho they don't quite fit into the underlying structure and have an exxagerated scale. I feel likr they are hovering in front of the ship instead of being a part of it. The other aspect is color scheme... I think the spaceship colors are too similar to the ones you used for the city itself, which gives a sense of "familiarity" instead of a strong antagonistic feel.

Other than that, I really think your work has matured a lot in these past few months, and your GSO entry is just a confirmation of that fact

Um grande abraço!

Yo, Andi! Feliz Ano Novo!

I like this spaceship design better than the previous one, because the protruding bottom of the ship looks more menacing! I think the windows look mysterious, and it's good that you increased their brightness. I do agree with Rui, in that the colours of the spaceship are too similar with the background. I think the whole picture is quite reddish now, making the vessel blend in too much with the environment. I would add a touch of blue to the distant cityscape behind the ship, maybe, to add depth.

I think also more detail to the priest would be nice: the cape seems to blend with the gloves, and we can't yet figure out the body too clearly, maybe some joints should stick out/bend cloth. I would also spread his legs a bit! :) That guy must be pretty crazy to stand fully upright on such a tall building with no hand rails! Seriously, though, if the stance is a little off-balance, it could add to the dynamics of the pic!
Keep up the good work!

Changed a couple of things...some of them were in answer to some of your suggestions. The sky's colors, the priest's stance, the sea vortex and a couple of other things. I also started detailing the city. I hope I didn't go back with this one.

Thanks for the great comments you have given! They really help!

Andreas - It's looking good! I like a lot of the new changes to the buildings and the water. I kind of liked the earlier stance better: It fit with the idea of the mysterious shrouded figure whose form wasn't totally evident. Now most of his form is clear. One of the things I liked from post #246 was that the windows on the bottom of the ship were totally crisp and defined, because fog from them was drifitng out and obscuring the perfect outline. It was more moody and anchored those windows in the ship and now they're floating above it more, feeling a bit like they're not totally incorporated in. I hope you'll at least consider adding some of that fog back in. Good luck!

well, it's getting pretty sweet isn't it!

in contrary to Walrus, I like the new stance more....no more comment on that
the water certainly has improved as well as the draft coming out of the ship.
I'm not sure if I like the tall building on the left cutting the frame like that..........
certainly redo the priests hands please, they look rather "simple". just use a photograph of your own hands for reference and you'll immediatly see why I'm whining about that.

I'm just nagging on the tiny bits because your entry looks already quite stunning, I hope you get a good ranking on the overall score!
best of luck, Francis

Oi Andi! Encontrei a Elsa aqui na Expo ao almoço!
It's looking pretty good, I think! I hope my suggestion have been useful so far. The only thing that's bothering me a little is that the contour of the distant ship is too defined. I think the main ship's contour is fabulous, and the other one diverts a little attention from it. Earlier pics showed the distant vessel more blended with the clouds and I think it looked better.
Congrats on the whirly water beneath the ship, it looks great! I also like this priest's stance better! I agree with foane, though, mind the tall building on the left, it is too thin or too tall and cuts the picture abruptly.
Ok, I think it's time to start adding insane detail to the foreground objects!
Best of luck!

Good work there!

Colors are pleasant and everything works fine

Cant think of way to do it any better.
Only way would have been using different viewpoint from the beginning, but that would have been totally new picture.

cape translucensy
sea
way the clouds interact with the alienship hull
tonal range is very good
These are your strong points. :)

i'll wait for the city detailing

Sorry this is very nitpicky comment. The group of buildings by his right hand I think look too eraser like on the tops. Sorry I don’t know if I can explain it well. All the other buildings look very clean on the tops except that grouping. It looks like you used only one size of eraser to clean it up. I think it looks excellent. I like the new changes that you have made. It also must be cool to see this site use your old version to promote this challenge.

Good Luck :)

I like your picture, the détail of the city is very good, and the atmosphere of the mothers ships is very great with the effect of energy's spiral on the sea. I like too the lighting of your landscap, it's really a very good picture, good work

It's been a while since I posted. A lot of really good things have happened since then... awesome work!

I like the new charcater, his pose, his platform and stairs... all great. You've done some really nice work on the clouds and their transition to the bright sky and the wake from the Alien vortex on the ocean is really nice.

I'm hoping you put a bit more work into you MG cityscape as it looks unfinished. The majority of the city is in shadow... lights on the buildings would bring them to life and add that detail.

Good stuff!

Hmmmm that`s definitely fantastic my friend. You can really get that apocalyptic feel when the spaceship is entering the atmosphere. What is your background mate? Keep up the good work, i really feel that you have lots of chance for the final.Only thing is that may be you should add some more details to the city buildings.

The new priest's stance is really cool, it adds much more movement to the whole thing. That staff got me wondering, though... have you ever played Diablo? :) It could have some supernatural sparks or something coming out of it, like Gandalf fighting off the Nazgul in LOTR!
The ship's windows look great!

Great addition with the platform. Made the composition way more solid. Also the bright steady platform gives some stability to the pic.

Only thing that bugs me. Is that the caster was not human at all?
That hood is giving the impression he is a weasel? What gives :) ?
That effect is now slightly removed from your newest update, but it still haunts me.

Reason is that pointy part can be regarded as a face. Please explain it a bit. Im lost here
He was alien caster all along? That explains it.

Made an overall contrast adjustment. Also filled the left part of the sky with a couple of clouds. The priest's cloak also got some reworking to make the wind's direction more consistent. I started to detail the cityscape, and removed the domeshaped buildings to the right. I introduced more buildings to make the city denser.

Thanks for all the comments and support, as always. These last days of the competition are going to be great, seeing all the wonderful artwork that is being produced simultaneously. It's great to see what others are doing. It's inspiring.

The new priest is great. It doesn't have that extra cloth over his head which wasn't working before, and his posture is clear and firm. It's also the right size. Good job!

Hi Andreas, it's been a while since I posted. Your pic's developing nicely, and I'm keen to see you detail out the city and buildings. The foreground's working very well, I quite liked the domed buildings but maybe it's balanced better without them. One thing, the waves generated by the spiralling energy seem to be luminous rather than subtly revealing themselves with reflected light and a subtle difference in value to the flat sea. Overall great though, keep it up!

Great work on the water, it looks more realistic now. The rest looks great too, cant wait to see more.
Try decrasing the opacity of the light beam below the ship. Not sure how it'd look, or if its what you're going for though.

Hi Andreas,

I´m looking forward to watch your approach in detailing the buildings. I find it difficult to deal with this in my image. The height of your township fits very good into the environment now and the platform is a very good idea. Great picture.

Do you add light in some parts of the buildings?

Beware the inclination of the steps of the platform, they don't appear to be horizontal, check the vanishing point!

It's looking wonderful, Andreas! Looks like you're pretty much done. all I can come up with are small quibbles. I liked the more frenetic waves in post #268, but that's just me. It feels to me like there hould be a hind more purple coming out of the left-most vent on the main ship, the one that's almost hidden by the curve of the ship (i.e. not the 3 vents that you're currently showing but the one to the left of that.) At the reisk of being redundant, a boat or two on the water for scale. (You had 'em in at some point!) But like i said, you're so close, they're all nothings. Great work! (and thanks for your notes on mine!)

Hi Andreas,

Now you´ve really found the right angle and position for the big spaceship. It perfectly fits into the scene. Ahhh...very nice! As from now I would recomend to make only detailing on the ships - nothing else. :)

Township: no crits - beautiful topography > just furthermore detailing and some lights which are on would be very cool :)

The Last Days That Will Never Be

"Not far from daily life in an immense place, millions of human beings live sheltered surrounded by an unconscious silence. From the sky dome above the restless urban life, hardly recognizable, emerges a familiar light that fertilizes the Earth.

However, there are other lights we ignore, perhaps evil, who knows. This is why there are dense clouds that shift according to winds and feelings of restlessness and doubt.

The human being lives side by side with a reality that transcends him. He is not conscious of many things that are beyond the futile concerns that take over his life.

But, man did not arrive yesterday to this world. He has been living in it for millions of years. Therefore, he has gathered precious wisdom. This inheritance of wisdom is like a venerable old man who helps facing the unknown, leading the way."

Finally finished. This challenge has been very special to me and I am really glad to have been part of it. So much great artwork produced simultaneously and watching the WIP was really inspiring. I've learned a lot these past few months...I can't even count all the hours that went into this.

I would like to give a special thanks to my work colleagues Rui, Manoo and Agostinho for all the great criticism and suggestions they gave me. Also a special thanks to my good friend Carlos aka DrFX. Thanks to everybody who took their time to comment.

Dedicated to Elsa.

Hi, Andi! The final piece is quite beautiful! I love the sense of struggle between Darkness and Light, I think it is a crucial theme for a lot of artists and life itself, not just Sci-Fi. The main strengths of the image are the geometric and chromatic composition, the materiality/plausibility of everything, the depth and, of course, the whole idea behind it!
I can only imagine the thousands of hours of work you put into this and am only glad if I helped you in any way with my crits! Good luck for the contest and congratulations for a job well done!

Haven´t been able to comment on this, but has been in here a couple of times. Knew I had to come back after deadline. You don´t let me down, this is my winning piece of the 2D section. Hi Andreas

I´m shocked this didn´t get an hornorable mention....really don´t understand it. This was, as already said, my favorite in the 2D section. Well, the main reason I´m back, is to ask you, if I can use your image. I´m in a danish drawingforum, in which there is a competition right now, where I can win a full membership of the forum. The rules(weird competition, but who cares...): upload your favorite drawing, but not one of your own...

This image was the only one I could think of, also because, I have just started in drawing with digitizer. May I upload it for the competition?
I will come back, telling you how it went. Then you would have won something afterall, at least the respect of a couple of thaussands danish drawers.

Hope you will let me.

Sincerely
