Ok, here goes my idea.

The Grand Finale.

Not really a storyline, but a little caption to explain the sketch:

The human civilization is at peace. By the combined efforts of the races of Earth, the artists, the scientists and the workers have created a society that has overcome war and has built the civilization that so many great thinkers throughout the century have dreamed of. Peace, justice and harmony reign in this world. The artist, the scientist and the worker are looking at the sunrise of their future, as tears come to their eyes, thinking about their accomplishments. Behind them a great mass of people, cheering in celebration, confetti fills the air and behind them all, the great city, the symbol of the greatness of the human race.

R u basing your idea on planet earth? I thouth it was not allowed
Is there a Womang among the main characters? I think you should make the scientist a female character, in between the male characters.

It wont be any particular planet, probably not Earth anyway. And yea, I know my sketch is pretty crummy, but the first one is a woman. She is holding an olive branch in her hand. I was thinking of having them all be different nationalities, but since there are only three there, I don't want to offend anyone by not including their people. Also, I don't want to stereotype.

Thats true :)

I think you should add some sort of technology looking device, beside the futuristic city in the back.. Like to the main characteres of the picture :) what you think? :scream:

I think the sketch is fine, if it gives you an idea where to take your plan. My only thoughts is, that the idea is great, but there doesn't appear to be any conflict. Not necessary I suppose, since Im sure there was conflict happening up until their accomplishment, but if there was no text to go along with your image, it might be difficult for an observer to get your gist so to speak.

mmm... like is too "Happy"

Well, the whole point of it actually, is the absence of conflict. I think too many 3d artists today, especially while doing futuristic scenes, concentrate on war, maybe because it's an easy way to create a dynamic in the scene. I think, in this day and age, with the things that are happenning to us now, it's imoprtant that we stop gloryfying violence in our imagery, and I'm going to try to get away from that. This is not just a "happy" scene, either. I'm going to do the best I can to express the emotion of pride and hope in their faces, try to capture the mood of the civilization at that point in those three faces and hopefully that will be dynamic enough.

I ment no offence when I posted the "happy" - I was trying to express the sense of "joy" in the civilisation

None ever taken :) Just clarifying the sketch.

sounds good toastie. I agree, that certainly you dont have to have violence to accomplish what were after. Its just easier...hehe

And I definitely think the person who best creates a scene that defies the status quo of violence in conflict, has a better then good chance of winning the whole shebang. I think people, when its time to vote, will lean toward an idea such as yours, if for no other reason, that the idea is not so...overdone...

War overdone? Just kidding. Interesting discussion. I think the concept is good, but I'm wondering if your composition could include some interaction between the characters or something for them to react to. Could it "capture a pivotal moment" as the challenge rules mention? Right now it seems more like a propaganda poster for peacemongers (alliteration!). Just a thought. Not necessarily conflict. Actually, I think I'm thinking of the article by one of the mods that the rules also mentioned, the one about creating an evocative image. Good stuff.

Here's the updated sketch. It's probably gonna be the last one, since I'm itching to get started on the modelling. I have some minor sketches for the individual characters but they're real rough. Anyway, more updates as soon as I get some modelling done.

I'm still not sure if I should give so much focus to the characters, maybe I should make them smaller and more lost in the crowd of people. Let me know what you think, guys!

hmmm. I was sold on the idea of having a close up of some heroes or something. both of your concepts will work, but will require work to make it work...hehe get it? If you have a close up, your going to need to put in alot of work on the characters. A wide shot with alot of people, will need something to tell the story without writing one... Love the last concept sketch, cant wait to see your modelling start.

Very good sketch you got there! I would suggest to add a massive looking "size" vessel to the left of the composition, faded among the clouds and behing the vessel add a planet, to symbolise the space, what do you think?

I love the concept, keep the good work.

note: I bet you will come with some real good textures for the main characters, hope to see your 3D work really soon :bounce:

-cheers!
