Thanks all.. All I can say is this challenge is going to rock... so many great artist and great theme to play with.

Might have to put some kind of frog theme in a few concept sketches... I do like the idea of muntant frog vs the flies. Frog's can be the bullies and the fly resistents.

First thumbnail of the humaniod frogs vs the fly creatures.... Will have a cleaned up vershion soon I hope, works been busy as of late.

Have a lot of different ideas running around my head. Like frog humanoids vs fly creatures or more traditional feel like battling monsters like in some of the greek myths.

I've alway been fascinated in the old tails and myths so I might try and make a more traditional piece.

More of a front view of the above concept

I love the idea "frog vs fly" battle and, like me, I think is good to rise at the beginning with more ideas... The second sketch for me is much like a 'lochness' déjà-vu; the third one can be interesting. Small first impression Kurt.

Thanks designer.. I think i'm going to delevlop the last one for the piece. It has more of a iconic feel to it. Maybe see if I can model a frog humaniod as the charqacter... Not sure yet.

I've always enjoyed your work, and I look forward to seeing it progress. I hear you on only being able to work on this on the weekends. I work a lot too, and I just joined the challenge to be part of the experience! HAHA.

I noticed that a few of my pics were "upsized" too. I guess it's something that is programed into the upload page?

Anyway, good luck, and have fun!

that last alien is soo cute... :)

chadtheartist
10-25-2004, 11:27 AM
Are you going to make the aliens insect-like? The designs kind of suggest so, but I'm not sure if that's the way you're going to take it. What I mean by insect-like is the Praying Manits style hands. Either way though I can't wait to see your next update!

You got a good start on modeling the hero's head, your last concept does have that hero look to the image. Look forward to seeing what's to come.

Very cool hero costume - it's like part sci-fi, part medieval knight somehow. For a second there I thought some plumes on the helmet could look nifty...

KurtBoutilier
10-28-2004, 04:33 PM
Thanks guys.... The plume idea might actully work... i'll try it out later on... I should hopefully have some time after work to start working on the helmit today.

looking good so far. The helmet could be slightly larger though, the current size looks to close to the head.. making the helmet look really thin. More updates!! :bounce:

I think that soldier could use a bit less 'generic' face - something with more 'attitude', more 'character'. He has to be a hero, not some unidentified soldier, doesn't he ? :)

KurtBoutilier
10-30-2004, 11:09 PM
Thanks for the input.. I was thinking along the same lines for the helmit I'll be adding a lot of stuff to to it soon should help wiht the size issuse.

azazel.... yeap on that too was thing of making him have more of a hard line jaw like judge dred.

Will have updats soon..

thanks again for the crit.

Played with his chin a bit made is a wider more tweaking to do to his face still. Slowly building up detail.

Hi everyone need your opinions.... Do you think the peice would work better in a city back drop more then the rocky one I had in the concept? I was thinking of making the creature a bit more decorated so it will look like they have some intenlligence like a modern race of these guys not just dumb creature.

Thanks all..

Hmm... backdrops....

You know, since you present those two alternatives - we'll be seeing lots of rocky backdrops in this challenge. And we'll be seeing lots of cities as well. My vote: combine it. A rocky city, perhaps houses carefully chiseled into the walls of mountains.

And the character is progressing very nicely - not much to crit at this point. Simply looks good.

Hey bud.. Thanks for the comments on the mesh. I really try to keep them as clean as I can, makes life a lot easier come texturing time.

I haven't had much time to play with this project last few days been busy with work. I'll hopefully have time to do some more on him tomorrow like his boots or hands..

Roughed out the hands and boots tonight. will be adding a lot of nik naks to the boots as well having wraps in his shins like the drawing. his hands will be in gloves it think.

Looking good  Closing in on the final character...

You might want to flatten the toe portion of the boots quite a bit to avoid a toony look though.
