Hi Dimi,

can`t wait to see what you`re going to conjure with this post effect...
Is Hypervoxel a plugin for Lightwave or just a particel system in the main prog?

monsitj
12-30-2004, 03:14 PM
wow hypervoxel is cool , but why don't u use fluid effects in maya??

lotaH
12-30-2004, 03:20 PM
excellent models, but the legs (mainly of the greater) are not very feminine?

Good luck!

[]'s

DimitrisLiatsos
12-30-2004, 04:12 PM
@ theuni ...Hypervoxel is part of LW...not and extra plugin :)

@ monsitj ...U are right i could go with FLUIDS in Maya...but i own a license of Maya Complete and not Unlimited :argh: ..that's the main reason...i have Unlimited only at the studio i work for and these days i am on holidays vacation..and even when i am there i don't have much time to work on my stuff... ...so basically all the explosions and particle effects i will have in my final will be Maya Software rendered particle systems, Hypervoxels from LW and Real time particle effects from a program we have at wotk called Illusion :) (..this one is a real time saver :bounce: )

@ lotaH ...maybe they look a bit 'cuase of the fluid muscle lines..but i am against making a beast leg design just becuase it has a beast face....i don't think that there is a strict rule for this.... :) hahahahahah ( i should be a Lawyer..hahahah)...but i am saving i think..the situation in texturing of those ..."cute" legs... :D

>..the Grana Bumba Tank...textured...i don't think i will take more time with it 'cuase it's not going to be that big in final image ..it 'll be more a background element i think...

hope u like it

Nice vehicle man. Nice texturing. Only thing missing the texture for the huge tires...
looking good. i thing you'll end up rendering peaces and putting them back together in photoshop, cos i don't think even 4 gigs of RAM will get even a couple of those babies with the cool fighters you made and the sparrow and stuff...

anyways good work, keep it up waiting to see it finished

wish i had more time for the GSO

Hahaha ...wheels are left like that 'cuase nothing of their texture is visible where the tank will be except coloring of tires...and ...actually my Dual G5 (with 3 GIGS ram) handles ALL the models together for render in the scene in 3000 x 4000 pixels Mental Ray render...just tested.... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: ..weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :bounce:

..first layer of explosion on Bridge..very simple setup..but it will do the trick i think...the "starts" of tails are not yet rendered nad also there will be 2 more layers in inner explosion just to give richer texture and volume to the effect...

Yeah, its me, but really dont remember the reason for looking like that, 3-4 years old picture, found it by accident on a cd-rom, and thought people should know who is commenting their work. Hope people still takes me seriously...:)(?)

About the latest submission, I think you need some more defined color borders(if you get what I mean). Its a little blurry all over. I, myself, have found some explosion references on the net, to sort of learn the nature of an explosion. And even though they look very different from one another, they have some similarities too(too hard to explain it here, but you should try look some pictures up. If already done, then never mind.) Your picture has two stages of an explosion in one event. The middle of the explosion seems to look like being later than the trails, which shows that this has just gone off. hehehehe, I really hope you get my point, just not that good to english:)

Anyways, keep it up.

@ Kragh ... about your avatar. Thanks for sharing...it's a cool pic even if don't remember..:). About both renders..(explosion and Battlefield..they are a bit blurry 'cuase they are simple Maya render in medium quality and with a defualt light...as far as the explosion goes..if i can't achieve the final result only with 3d ...compositing will close the case ..hahahaha..i hope :argh:..:D....Happy New year man!

@ Lemog ...my friend u wrote that in PERFECT Greek.......yeah. Happy new year to u too my crazy Frenchy :bounce:

@ kotsos ... Don't worry friend i am still experimentig with camera angle and kind od View...but in any case i will use as much vehicles and characters and effects i can BUT always with keeping in mind not to make a fuzzy image..i want things to have the tension of Battle but also i want it not to be ..too much for eye...:)

I'm not sure what to say. I was apsent for a few days, and you have finished the handsome guy, the ugly guy, then you have cut his face, and make the weapon which was used to make the scar. I think that you are trying to be a nut as our French nut. Slow down a bit:):)
But seriously everything goes perfect. But in my opinion this weapon looks too brutal for the handsome guy. It looks more like a Grana Merc's gun. But probably it will look good as an Isbur Guard GUN.

...I am starting to post the compo elements regarding characters and stuff..i just am posting them as Modeling milestones 'cuase of the clay render...final coloring will be a surprise ( don't know if it's gonna be good or bad..u will finally judge this as viewers).

I am going finally for a very difficult composition...maybe one of the hardest ever taken from me mainly of tthe amount of different elements..but ..It's gonna be a Battle...too Big Scene ...too much going on...little time to complete...but it will finish...

The setup has purpose to take the viewers eye to travel from Left to right and the intension is all the image to have the suspense of confict and battle.

I hope u like the final outcome ...cuase now the Layers are starting to gather ....
Hope u like this first Element..(u will see this in final image in a more dramatic angle.)

Ok, first post ever on CG Talk ! Yay!

I've been lurking behind the curtains in this forum for quiet some time and browsing through threads anonymously, (mainly for the fact that I really dont believe I have not yet anything to show to you fine people!) but I couldn't resist anymore, I simply MUST salute this Homo Liatsosus =>(supreme humanoid CG creator breed) !!!

Kali nichta, neighbour :) I've been following this thread from day 1, and I've realized two things; What amazed me is not only how superb your works are, and they are certainly superb, but it is:

1. Your passion doing these things... Not only you are working with the speed of thought, but while doing so, the quality of your work does not suffer a bit!! One must have a total passion and love for his work to keep the level of quality so high for this long  I can only respect that! :applause:

2. ... how you "embrace" the community and your "fan circle" :D You are having huge fun and share it with the people so this thread turned into a kind of interactive workshop! That's so cool

And, the most important thing of all, you MADE me get through all the trouble of registering and posting here! (which is a big deal for a poor lazy guy as myself :))

Well, now I really dont have anything else to say at conclusion part, but you get the idea! You rock on! :buttrock:

Kylebrn
01-06-2005, 11:08 PM
I think the poses turned out good.Along with those models, good work. But the gun of the cat fighter is waaaaaaay toooooo big man.Plus the scene is waaaaay tooo dark.I cant really make anything out in that last scene except for bits and pieces and some lights.:)

ace4016
01-06-2005, 11:09 PM
I cant say much about the bridge, looks ok to me, but the pose of the fighter could use some work. How about putting his right foot on the grana mercs left thigh to look like he is pulling out; the legs look too unnatural just hanging there, plus the pushing of the thigh would give the gaurd a more agressive and agile look becuase you have to be pretty aggresive and agile to do all that. Hope you also have a grana merc hurting a gaurd too. One more thing you can add is the grana mercs hand on the gaurds arm without a tight grip, its all your call though.

BTW, that little sleeve thing didnt look too flamboiant with the gun/blade the gaurds have, guess it worked out.

DimitrisLiatsos
01-06-2005, 11:27 PM
"D" don't you have a dual G5 system? 4 hours to render?
Yes ...in full res by the rules ..not this part only...it's heavy render time 'cuase i increased a lot the antialiasing Algorithm and the Contrast threshold lower in Mental Ray for the thin lines to render with no grain :)

@ Kylebrn ...thanks man..Gun is waayyy big?...hmmm have u played Unreal Tournament lately to see what guns they carry...weeee...after all the size is mainly dominated by the size of his arm to fit in....:)...but it is a little big....
About Scene...Dark ...i have my monitor calibrated with electronic system....and to tell u the truth i can see more that just bits of pieces (monitor calibrated for Image printing work ...) :)

@ ace4016 ... thanks man...about pose ...i am trying to catch the motion on the air ..meaning that he is jumping and steping on his kneecup so he can go higher and stab him on the neck...if it's not visible then i have i guess to work on this more....:)

Must be real dark prints.:) ;) It's just that the models seem lost.I dint see any of the detail, you got detail but it's just not there in the picture,it's lost.Plus the colors are all just dark tones and melt into each other.it just seems alot of the models are lost,it's a shame.

Now I see, if he is still in the jumping position then i think his feet/legs shouldn't be that far in front of his body, instead maybe more behind or just starting to come forward. If he is going to jump off his thigh then his knees should be higher like hes getting ready to plant his feet on the other guy's thigh, if hes just going to push through and go in the same direction then his feet should be more behind i think and ready to land. Hope it all works out in the end.

01-07-2005, 01:59 AM
Hey Liatsman, i thought i could throw an advice about your chest stabbing pic. From an animator's point of view i think it lacks the dynamics that such a move requires. I just can't imagine what was the previous pose that lead to that stabb. His body doesn't support it at all but insted it seems like moving away from his strike point. Why don't you try an extreme "punch" pose for a change, or even a pose he is killing two opponents at once, stabbing one on the back, and shooting another comming towards him, that way you can involve 3 characters instead of two. ;)
Just a friendly suggestion.. As i think you are already on the road for a totally kick ass picture. :D

azazel
01-07-2005, 08:25 AM
Note on the light: right now it could do as a general fill/ambience, which however needs some direct, and colored key. I know there is a key there, but not enough. Now another good thing would be ditching the hdr lighting, instead using few low intensity maya's directional lights (they are very handy for such tasks), and rendering separate occlusion pass. That way the scene with lights would render in say 10 - 20 minutes, not 4 hours - you have to compute ao only once ;)

DimitrisLiatsos
01-07-2005, 08:57 AM
@ace4016, Dennik ... Guys thanks...i think that u are right ...the pose lacks some reasoning of what was before ..i was just carried away of the shapes of the bodies (which i liked like this...)...maybe i just keep this for far ..FAR away back in my composition and just sit down and make a pose like the one Dennik suggests...thanks friends ..most helpfull... :bounce:

@ azazel ...Thank u friend...these are good advices indeed  ...my main problem though is that my scene is describing a moment at dawn of day (very early ) or a moment just before sun goes down...i have checked so much about it..(i even shut on my balcony to wait for sunrise) That moment the key light is helping more just in highlights and light on objects is working more like a FILL light...so basically that's just what i thought i needed ...more fill lighting.....i just hope i am wrong when it comes to a complete image:shrug:..heheheh...Thanks friend

@ -tolga- ... :) thanks ..but i 've seen your thread...u are crazier my friend :bounce:

Dawn / sunset are probably one of the nicest lighting situations, as you can have quite strong key coming from side, and colors at that time usually are quite rich - as sunlight get's more yellow or even orange. Then you can have contrasting warm lit areas, and blue/violet/purple shades (coming from the sky - here skylight helps, but directionals will do as well) - giving even more possibilities. Basically you can avoid 'gray' lighting. On the other side, there probably will be explosions, giving nice colored local lighting - so too colorful 'main' lighting would be no good.

dawn can look like this:
http://www.save-the-elephants.org/Photo%20Gallery/Mali%20Expendition/original/DSC02505%20Dawn%20at%20landing%20place.jpg - kinda like your setup at the moment, or like this:
http://bill.emr.net/images/Pinacate/Durham/Dawn%20at%20the%20Dunes%206.jpg - probably bit later, tho.

i like second one bit more - mainly because of the stronger warm sunlight.

ok, nuff typing for now :)

.... On the other side, there probably will be explosions, giving nice colored local lighting - so too colorful 'main' lighting would be no good.
.....

That was also from start another point that had to be taken in mind....Blast ...explosion and smoke i think will make it very busy if i have a stornge key light...Maybe in general u are right though...i am not so sure how much i have in the challenge to adjust that to optimal point :banghead: ...but for sure i will try man... (thanks for the links...

I love the sparrow fighter Dim. But do you think it should be a walker or should the legs act more like landing pods. Seems like making it a walker is not mechanically sound.

DimitrisLiatsos
01-08-2005, 05:56 PM
@ jfelrod1960 ....I want it friend to be also a walker ...it's an invasion mech ship...it can walk as a mech...fly as a jet ...and hover as an helicopter...3-ple action machine :)

Commander: Go for the thrusters! bring it down!!
Infantry: It is down sir... Now what?
Commander: Uhm... err.... RUN!!

-OR-

Just throw a big can of thick black paint to it's cockpit windows to immobilize this sucka :scream: !!
Heh, In all the sparrows glory and elegance, the cockpit being a glass dome has always bugged me, somehow. When I'd first seen the model I thought the cockpit was the area where currently the frontal lights are, and that the pilots were sitting next to eachother like the AT-STs or more like "Intruder" jets...

obviously that's a comment that's several weeks late, but I kinda wanted to get it off my chest.

Hey, but the pose is awesome! The impression is, he's coming towards me with open mouth and eyes (lights) locked at me, and the head slightly bent to the left, saying "Now you're gonna get it!!!"

This is stunning Dimitris! I was blown away by what you were able to come up with for the Merc, you've got tremendous talent  Glad to see you're still hard at work on this. Only suggestion is if you are going to focus on the soldiers like this you may want to vary their expression so it looks more realistic. Maybe add the guy in back who is looking at his friend fall scream or something, as right now he kind of has that "What the heck is wrong with you?" look :D Models look awesome though.

Hey Dim, Looks Mega Great, My suggestion: Exagerate a bit more the "movement" of the troops, the same poses, but more exagerated, Have you ever seen the book "learn to draw at Marvel's Style" by Stan Lee, it has good advices for making stills of humans in action

Wow! are all those texturized models in a single scene? you should have a Mega Computer, I am afraid to charge my scenes too much, but i guess I haven't tried, mine is a P3 double processor 1000 mhz

Another observation: the dark gray on them semms too dark, try this same image against a white background, and you'll see what I mean :deal: of course i dont know which background will they have, so delete my observation :D

Well then Dim, Keep going pal, there is just 8 days left   :argh: :wip: :arteest:

OK tonight and hopefully tommorow night i am rendering the last 2 pieces for my composition i think...i am sorry to say that some things can't change anymore at list for this image.....i am working from tommorow morning on a new tv (darn :banghead: ) spot so basically for me the challenge is now only the compo of what will be ready from rendering up to Tuesday night.....

So....i will post all layers that i will use in the composition(i have already started)..day by day and at the time i have a compo that it's ok i will put a diagram of all layers as they will used...and of of 'course the image!
So ....what i want to say...is...In ONE HOUR FROM NOW I WILL POST AN ADRESS TO GET IN AND PLAY UT2K4 (i will be searching in Atari Servers)....get ready ...Liatswagen is gonna frag your butt(that's me in UT2K4...)... :scream: :scream: :scream: ...oh please have names as here in CGtalk so we can recognize each other :bounce: :bounce:

hi, awesome piece of work

I like you characters very much, they look just great ... could you post some unwraped wires for me ? I`m not good at texturing organic / round shapes, so I`d like to get inspired ;)

also I have to ask - did you use some plugin / external program ? or simple 3d max`s unwrap and lots of work ?

I`m modelling an alien ship for my entry, I managed to get through texturing using planar mapping on different channels and a composite material with opacity masks ... but that`s not going to be enough when I want to make characters

thnx

"D" you are a very hard worker. I had been thinking about your title and since you referred to it in your last post, I decided to ask the same thing. It looks like your images presented so far does not contain any destruction to Kaheldar. But I got a feeling you are keeping a few secrets. :)

...it's a surprise......

@ SNoWs...thanks man...although my Wife has too many crits about it ..up to now

"hey guys it only stay 10 seconds before the bomb explode... 9.. 8.. 7.. 6.. I cut the red.. or blue cable... 4.. 3.. 2..:applause: "

nope not gonna, I'll be doomed to getting taken apart by people with a far better ping rate than I've been getting

OK but since you insist, I just feel that the Merc's hands could have been posed better.......very expressive things hands, and well those are just not really saying 'pain' if you know what I mean :)
