I gotta say , tho, I value the daily comedy bit on the board as much
as a good artistic advice , so I could've easily given u the vote , wabbit

i do cg cuz its fun and if i become good at it in the process, all the betta

yea , ordered UT, i'm cannonfodder too, so it'll become easier for u cause there's
either someone new on the other side that cant hit u that good or someone on
the same side as easy to shoot , so u dont get shot that often

I was a little disappointed in the selection, though. No offense to anyone whatsoever: all of the finalists were quite worthy, but there were also other people who were part of the challenge whom I felt disappointed not to have seen on the Community Challenge ballot. These are people who obviously didn't top the final 5 for quantity of posts, but were way up there in quality.

I felt the same way. Another issue when considering quantity over quality -- when looking at the post history for the contenders, most of the posts were made after the competition deadline.

Since qualifiers for the Community Challenge need to have completed their GSO entry the voting wouldn't be TOO cumbersome, especially since people would vote for those who helped them in their own work. No offense to the 5 finalists, but I think only one of them commented on my work.

that sounds very weird , considering the boards went pretty quiet pretty
soon after the contest deadline ...

i was pretty astonished to be on that CA list, cause i just went where i felt like and
said what i felt like , never was after a prize , although I really would like to get
one of those Exposι 2's from the actual competition :)

When I voted each of the 5 finalists had a link if you wanted to read the comments they made during the competition. For each finalist, there were 4 pages of post citations. The earliest date I saw was after the contest had ended. Maybe the list of finalists was generated by posts during the competiton, but the posts on display were not what I'd want to base my vote on.

You were still very active on the boards, though--your old angel avatar was
EVERYWHERE and you made some pretty valuable comments whether you meant to or not ;).

yea i got on a roll during the competition and just didn't stop after it was over, lol.

anyways, i think it only shows 4 most recent pages of posts .

btw, as an after comment, i think your GSO pic was mighty original..
.. it was looking at that pic when i thought "wow, this contest really beat
machine flesh in variety" .. pretty bold move to go for a flat 2D pic, too

Yeah, I realized it was a gamble but I couldn't think of a way to fit everything I wanted into a realistic picture and still have it make sense. I thought that a pictogram would solve the problem and would still fit within the guidelines. Even if I go down in flames it was a great competition.

BTW I just checked out your Machineflesh entry the other day. Brilliant! I haven't read through the thread yet, but I can imagine an old timer saying "I can remember when I was a boy going to Coney Island to see the flying whales." It's got a beautiful antiquated look.

• Well, I don't know about the selection method, but one thing is for sure : Only challengers know how helpfull other were, of course it is imposible to check posts one by one just to see if they are helpfull or not.
• I am not complaining but giving a suggestion: next time let only the challengers vote who deserve the comunity award among everyone, not just a few because only then everybody will feel full fairness in the total score of the competicion
• One good post is worth than a thousand empty and personal replies, please, I don't want this reply to be missunderstood, for me, almost all the selected had a cool interaction in my thread, and I am Happy they were choosen for the Comunity Award ( In my personal opinion they deserve it) but, in all challenges groups of friends come togheter and use threads same way as chat rooms and that is really unpleasant for other people who see thousands of replies that are not hepfull at all or in fact have nothing to do with the challenge. people like that does not deserve to be mentioned in a comunity award only for the amount of replies he/she has done, that is my personal opinion.

• Don't hate me 4 this....I just wanted to be honest and to make challenges even better and impartials

to tell the truth I have to agree with that.

Squibbit
02-04-2005, 06:26 AM
yea, the participants should know who helped them and cheered them on.
As i said before, I too, think that each participant should get to vote from
among all the participants say 3 to 5 people that helped them most.

even if there were a huge list of names to vote for, they would know who to
find and vote

and as also said before , pretty soon after the deadline I'd already posted
so much that the four post archive pages had only a few posts left from
competition times , too few for someone unknowing to come and base any
vote on

Climax
02-04-2005, 07:23 AM
Something like this:

• Each callenger picks 3 of the most helpfull persons in his own thread and if the names coincide in most of the challengers picks, then this are truly the people who deserve an award or recognition

• If the comunity award is for the people who more post has....some people will start replying garbage only to increase their post scores to get it!

• In this case cheering post should not count ( they are cool and give strenght to challengers, but cheering is only for moral incentivation and should not be awarded because it is something we give in exchange of nothing but fellowship )

• Joking is also cool, ( I like that :D ) but chatroom speech  should be forbiden and deleted! ( It is a real pain in the ass to read personal quoting and replying of non sense CONVERSATIONS in threads that are meant for public reference )

so it's just a teacher award ? cause i don't know

chatroom speech  should be forbiden and deleted! ( It is a real pain in the ass to read personal quoting and replying of non sense CONVERSATIONS in threads that are meant for public reference )

no way nobody deletes stuff from my thread. Somebody wants to have some fun and
chat away on my thread just go ahead , i like reading that, and if don't feel like it , I
can always skip that rather effortlessly. And somebody comes lookin for the current update on the pic they will find it with out too much trouble, just
have to go thru a few pages, no big deal.

If you just like to view the other person's WIP's you can easily do it through the
View Entries pages , my GSO signature links, for example, are both linked to that.
This way you don't have to read anything.

but, i will now remember to take a more serious, guarded attitude when visiting your thread,
thanks for the thoughts :p

• Lol, I don't want to appear as the Anti-fun guy here!, it is just that when quoting & replying for personal issues takes several pages it is kind of anoying, a couple of jokes is ok (that's precicely why i never visit entry pages...they are boring...) but not entire thread pages, in fact, when everything goes gray in a thread, I look the way of bringing some laughts to the party :scream: and I appreciate the same from all of u

Why do you guys change your avatars if once established?

For me, my avatar represents the best of my work (so if I create a better piece of work down the road, I'll change it to that); for me, it's just an evolution of myself as an artist. :)

Oh yeah, I also agree with what most of you are saying about the Community Interaction judging - wish they only used the comments before the deadline and had a bigger list of eligible people to vote for.

I think there should be 3 important things to be considered for a thread to get the vote
for the community Award.
1.The number of visitors.
2.More important than that the number of replies the thread gets.
3.The variety of artists who reply( Not just 3 or 4 artist freinds talking together) .
So the relation of these scores is important;for example
100 visitors _ 50 replies _ from 20 different artists.:applause:
That makes a cool combination but
200 visitors_ 30 replies_from 5 different artists is not good.:D
So maybe it helps to know how artistic a thread might be and how it has affected other artists .
This is my new formula I came up with though.(LOL)

Hi adel3d

I agree the community interaction award should be given on the quality
and number of different artists that viewed the threads, rather than
4-5 artists chatting online......its a very stong point you make,

Patina!

I wake up very early today the 14th, to know the list of winers, I want to ask to all the people that started that big discution about voting, Do you think the final results are unfair?, I think they are not. Obviously the greatests works are there. So Congratulations to the winers!!

Hey Snakefarlow,
There is always going to be some great images that didn't make it to the shortlist and I can think of several that I think should have made it ahead of a couple that did. I still think it would be nice to know if your image placed in top 15-50 or 50- 150 in the public voting. Not the exact position but just a rough idea or range as to were people voted for your image.

I still think having the public voting select 25-30 entries from each category and then let the judges select the winners and honorable mentions or top 15 entries from this shortlist of 25-30 entries. Hey maybe they did do it this way I don't know .
Just another idea , to build excitement maybe you could anounce the shortlist a couple of days or hours before the final announcement of the winners. It was sort of anitclimactic this way.

Anyways,Congratulations to all the winners
Mike

There were many additional images I would love to see in honorable mention but somewhere has to be a limit/cut. Maybe because of the logistic effort the number is set to 15.

There were about 14000 votes which is a good amount to get an objective and fair voting result in my opinion.

Congratiulations to all who put all their energy into their work to get it done right in time. And of course to all winners.

best regards

Congradulations to the winners. I must agree that a complete list of the remaining entries and their votes would be nice. I have to admit I expected to see a quite different list but all but one entry I really believe belongs in that list. Congradulations everyone. I will see you all again in the next challenge. :applause:
