So, my Natalie Portman model (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17664&pagenumber=2) is nearing completion, and I need to texture it (being solely a modeler and not a texturer is just lame). I need to unwrap the texture, but what's the best way to do this? i tried frontal projection to apply test textures to it, but the front projection includes the polys on the back of the head. I can't really unwrap the lowpoly proxy, since it will have distortion in the final image. In short, I'm looking for a head unwrapping tutorial, or someone to be a "personal trainer". :D

First, Select all the front faces of your head ( subdiv faces not poly proxy).
Next, go on: Subdiv sufaces->Textures->Planar mapping (options) .
Choose the good axe ( the axe of the front of your head ) and apply.
Look at the UV texture editor, it should be good.
You can do that with all the side, just selecting the faces of the right side, the left side ... and unwrap them.

If you want to work your textures with photoshop, you can export a snapshot of the UVs.
-> In the UV texture editor : Subdivs->UV snapshot.

I'm not a texturing master but i was just texturing a model, so i can tell what i learned :)

Hope it helps u and sorry for this pitiful english.

Another way, with cylindrical projection.
