Hi,

A bit late I know (well, still have a month thanks to the generous deadline): an oldtimer based on an Aston Martin. No concept yet, just a link to the blueprint from http://www.onnovanbraam.com.
http://users.pandora.be/rvoet/comp/oldtimer_blueprint.gif

And my modelling so far (not much yet either)

Just a small update. The style I'm going for is 'american cowboy'. The pilot will have a hat (and probably a gasmask for the post apoc feeling). There will be a skull on the front and a painted rusted americal flag. The turret will be on the back. Now just gotta make a concept drawing, arrgh ;)

hmm, no replies yet? :(
anyway, here is another update; the turret consists of twin vulcan guns

Are you using blender? I used to use blender, UV mapping is gonna be very tedious.

I like the model so far, it's coming along well, what's the polycount?

Are you using blender? Yep :)

UV mapping is gonna be very tedious. I know, LOL

what's the polycount? 3000 tris so far; which means I'll have to try to get the pilot under a 1000, then the rest for more detail on the car itself (maybe save a few more polies on the wheels or so)

still only one reply?

here's another progress shot; modelling is pretty much finished except for the pilot and the skull on the front

I think that the turret should be raised more...
At the height that it is at right now it could not shoot forward, because of the drivers head...

Maybe you could fix that...
ALSO, YA! That is cool that you are using blender! Not may people do, I tried it once but, it was not for me…

I don't know why, but I imagine that the skull will be in the front of the car(grill if You know what I mean) not on the top. And I think, there will be nice if (of course if You planned him) the driver keep the sling-shot. A little humor( if my poligon limit won't be alert I'll make also something funny). Besides, model looks nice , and the concept with twins volcano is very nice. Keep workin

nice idea but is the weapon 1/4 of veichle?

Nice car style. Isnīt the poly ratio too concentrated on the weapon? It looks great but it keeps you from adding smoother look on the car and keeps you from adding detail. Like sling-shot. That would be cool. Have you concept on the driver? I want to see him.

i would make the turret more a cannister cylindrical shape i agree with the comment about the skull it should be more towards the front not on the grill though not on this car at least

i'm trying to think of how the turret will be controled?

nice idea but is the weapon 1/4 of veichle? uh, no :) I can simply scale it bigger of course, but it seems about right now (crap)

Isnīt the poly ratio too concentrated on the weapon? Actually about 450 tris for each vulcan canon, so that's about 1000 for the gun. Might be a big much, but not sure how to limit it more. The geometry is really simple: 6 6-sized cilinders (the barrels) and 4 8-sized ones (the pieces in between). I can cut one iteration though on the barrels, so might do that if the limit gets close (1 iteration for 6 times 12 tris, hmm a nice 72 tris to add somewhere else, LOL)

Have you concept on the driver? In my head: yes :) on paper: no

i'm trying to think of how the turret will be controled? uh, automated?

PS: hate to ask, but uh, sling-shot? don't know what you mean

Earlier you said that you were modeling a Aston Martin, now just a suggestion, but it would add a level of detail if you had rear lights and also license plates... Than again, this would just add detail, so if your polygons allow... :)

here's a link to a (very) quick and not very successfull concept drawing (http://users.pandora.be/rvoet/comp/oldtimer_concept01.jpg) of the pilot
and here is a modelling shot (very rude and not yet fully completed)

finally another update
I finished the UV unwrapping (quite a bit of wasted space still and not so very good, but it will do)

http://users.pandora.be/rvoet/comp/oldtimer_progress07.jpg

and these are the unwraps (scaled 50%)

Hey, Good job so far, I hope that you can finish in time.

The one thing that bugs me is the turret on the back of the car...
Its not going to turn is it? Also towards the back of the car when it starts to slope down, it leaves the turret on top with a gap...
I would make sure that they, the turret and the backside of the car, are both connected.

This entry looks great, I really dig the design.
There is still almost three weeks to go, I hope your textures turn out nice!

Actually my texturing skills are pretty limited  but I will do my best

Coming along nicely, but you need some more detail and contrast in your textures. :)
Also, don't forget to do some highlights/shadows and some mud & dirt.

still a lot of work to do (or more like still a lot of messing around), but I'm having fun :)

Great concept Crimson, I know you have more to do but a few things.
The vehicle looks as if it's made of rock, maybe adding grooves for the where the doors should be would help the look of the car, it looks like a doorless car but it might help? The mapping on the gun turret at the top looks a bit mashed, maybe mapping those polys from the top seperatly and adding a seam would fix that and create more detail and interest in the turret.
I love the American flag across the bonnet and the cow skull, looks cool!
Well done
Keegan

Thx for all the replies!
I changed a few more things, but considered it final enough to post in the finished thread :)

Don't forget that you can still change the images in the submission thread before the deadline! :)

Great work anyway!!
