I'm still on Win98 so when i tried to install it a few minutes ago it said I need NT or greater. Are Win XP better than NP? I dunno about all those Windows editions so what do you suggest?

I've used both Windows NT with all of the service packs installed and Windows 2000 and haven't had any problems running Maya unlimited. Have not used maya on XP so I don't know how it runs on that.

its sort of like the difference between Windows 95 and ME... same sort of structure, but an updated and "made better" form.

EDIT: lemme get this straight.... you bought a $2000-7000 application without checking the system requirements?

You mean XP is newer than NT right? Not the other way round....

Lemme get this straight... you expect that an 18 yo guy who still uses W98 would have the money to buy a $2000-7000 application? I bought it the "other" way, the one that everyone who doesn't work for company and still studies buys them. Am I going to get banned now? I promise I'll by them the "proper" way once I find a job in the industry.

Yes, XP is newer than NT, by about 5 years.

XP is newer and works just as well as NT (since it is NT, just a newer version) It boots up in half the time. there are some minor issues about how windows are handled in XP and you can read them in the system requirements on the AW website. ive used XP with maya for the last 6 months. works fine

XP is the way to go.

I'm not sure of that, Maya has still some problems with XP.
I advise win2k with service pack 3, it runs very well, and win2k is more stable than Xp.

you should also include what type of computer you are running!
on XP some folks have reported some memory issues,(timing etc) on MXP(dual AMD) systems,
But in XP seams to be OK, next SP should be blast!

yes well there are problems with every OS ever made but are the problems show stoppers? probably not. A lot of people out there also blame the OS when the problems could be hardware failure or compatibility issues. Again, the only real issues with XP and maya are listed on the website
