hey all! it's my first post, so please be gentle. heheh.

I've been fiddling with several hdr files i've found on the internet, but honestly, i can't find many. Do you guys happen to know where's a good resource for hdr files, and perhaps explain how i could make my own hdr files. I know it's got something to do with a chrome ball/fish eye lens, and taking several exposures of it, but... like, what software's good to compile it all into one good, solid hdri file?

appreciate hearing from ya'll. cheers.

HDR shop is a good place to start.

http://www.debevec.org/HDRShop/

but the site seems to be down at the moment.

I found some HDRI's here
http://kelsolaar.3dvf.net/Ressources/MyArt/SharedRessources/HDRI/HDRI.htm

hope that helps.

i've written a little about assembling your own hdri's. it doesn't go into detail regarding multiple viewpoints and removing the photographer, but should be a decent introduction. it can be found here:

This (http://www.andrew-whitehurst.net/hdri_tut.html) is a tutorial I wrote a few years ago about making HDR images on a low budget with minimum gear. It's a bit old but most of the content is still valid.

Might be of some use to you.

All the best,

Andrew

Andrew W, i wonder if you still have the rib and/or sl files for that test you did. I would like to attempt the same test with some christmas ornaments: )

Erm, no sorry. I think I did that sequence on a computer I don't own anymore. Plus it was done in Entropy which had different raytracing calls so you'd have to tweak the shaders a lot anyway. It wasn't anything fancy though, I'm sure you could create something better these days really easily.

Best,

A
