View Full Version : Walk Cycle Preferences?
Michael Chen 10-16-2004, 12:11 AM I was just curious which method below do you people prefer when doing walk cycle and why.
1) Animating the character walking on the spot with feet sliding back.
or
2) Animating the character moving across the screen and render the cycle via the camera which moves with it.
Thanks all.

If i'm experimenting with styles, or practising a walk cycle it'll be a sliding feet job (1). In an actual animated scene i'll animate them actually walking (2) since not only does it give each step a unique feel, but it frees me up from having t mess around with importing / looping / blending NLA clips in the middle of an animation. I guess I'm just not used to that yet. Although having to animate each step is time consuming. It's also much more flexible, as you can give shorter or longer strides to your need. You can also vary the rate of speed, and turn differant directions etc.
