View Full Version : New character for demo reel
berice 10-15-2004, 08:31 AM heres a character i started on tuesday...hes the 3rd real-time character i have ever done. he actually took me about a day to complete.. i was gonna post it step by step for crits, but its been a hectic couple of days for me..so ill just post the progress...model time about 4-5 hrs (due to going back and cleaning up the model) and like 8 or so (if not a little more) for texture. the final count is actually 2090 tris
(i found some sneaky faces hiding that i forgot to delete) and 2 512 maps...i may still add more detail to the texture maps...if i have time...

Cool model + skin but i think the eyes look crazy and the armor needs some scratches and a bit more variations.

I think the bevels on the armor have too much lighting from all sides.
Check out some pictures of halo at bungie.com and look how they light
the bevels.
Also when you create the map dont start with a 512x512 map, create one thats like four times the size and then when your done shrink it down to 512. this will allow you to have alot more detail. check out my dragon http://www.freewebs.com/benjaminangulo/index.htm it had a huge map then brought down in pixels but they tend to keep alot more info than you think. But for the most part your modeling is good... BUT CHECK OUT HALO...Lots and lots of reference

the porportions are very strange. the head is too small for the torso. the torso is too small for the legs. just what i think.
