View Full Version : Character: Kyo (need help with blendingtexture)
SilentRage 10-15-2004, 05:38 AM Here's a character i'm working on for fun,
this is the high res version, around 6k tris, i'm going to make lower res versions later.

I'm having a bit of a problem with texture though,
I havn't really learned how to blend the textures perfectly,
so i'm getting these ugly gaps.
I heard you can do it with blendmaps, but i have no idea how to do it.
So if anyone knows how to blend textures using maya, please help me out.
also any kind of criticism is welcome.

The easiest way to seamlessly blend textures in my experience is by using the clone stamp tool in photoshop that way the colors are dead on. I'm pretty sure that you can't do it just in Maya, unless someones been holding that info from me http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

yea, you can do it in Maya, works like a champ to, go to the rendering tool sets and look for the texturing tools, 3d paint tool, go into the options of that and set the clone tool. Make sure your UVs are nicely laid out or its gonna give ya problems
Try use the 3D paint tool:)
Texturing→3Dpaint tool→optionbox?(a small cube icon beside pulldown menu),
and set paintoperation to clone.
(I can't test it right now,and I almost forget about this,so I can't tell how to use it correctly, but I used to use this tool to fix texture connection ploblem)
I used this maya4.5 or later.
Anyway detail is in manual.
You can use it almost as same as stamp tool in photoshop in Maya 3Dview.
Sorry Slythis posted about this while I'm writing:).

thanks a lot guys, i'm gonna test this thing out right now :D
just wondering, is this better than a 3rd party 3d paint package like deep paint 3d or bodypaint?

just remember when using the 3d paint tool to first set your project in a folder..then open the 3d paint tool options box and click assign/edit textures. then you can set what size maps you want maya to recreate and what file type theyll be...also using a wacom tablet or any tablet in general helps with blending aswell...(thats in maya as well as in ps)

you could also color outside of the UV edges to cover up seams. Usually on character models, I color outside the mesh references to cover up seams. Although 98% foolproof, you have to color it in such a way that seams are invisible. From far camera shots, the seam is virtually invisible.
Another idea is to take the UV Coordinates of the hand and join it to the wrist of the arm...and use low opacity brushes and build up the tones...
