Hey everyone, This is my first time posting on Cgtalk. A few of my friends from Cogswell College post here often and tell me it's a good place to get critiques. So far i'm only in the modeling stage of this city, about half way done, but as soon as I get done modeling, i'll start texturing and lighting. All the modeling has been done in XSI 4 so far. This project is going to be for my demo reel so any critiques or pointers are welcomed and appreciated.

Looking great so far. I have a feeling this is going to be really impressive...

The only crit I have so far is that at first, and even second glance, I missed the devastation. I almost want to see that bridge all caved in, with old beat up cars strewn around, tops of buildings missing.

Great start though.

Here's another pic with some more devastation.

I agree, the model is looking excellent, some debris is needed on the ground though I think. It will be very interesting to see what you do with the textures on this one.

Shaders are going to make or break this.

Architecturally, it reminds me of Antonio Sant'elia (http://www.futurism.org.uk/santelia.htm ). Great stuff. I'd say more damage, but that's just me. Look at the post war views of London and Berlin.

Very cool architectural designs. I can't wait to see how they look with textures and lighting.

Hey Big R

This is looking nice, I think that we need to see alot more debris in the streets and parts of buildings on the ground. I also think that it would be cool to see part of the bridge knocked out and more devistation. Keep up the work, you are really working hard on this.

Hey guys, i've been working like crazy to get this scene finished. Ive got just under a week left for modeling so there's gonna be a few more posts pretty quick. So far, i've put in some vehicles all smashed up, like the car slammed into the light post and the truck tipped over in the background. There will be tons more debri on the streets soon, im trying to finish up the core modeling first (buildings and vehicles) and then i'll model the props like debri and whatnot. I'm going to start texturing soon as well. Thanks for the responses, more destruction coming soon!

the scene is looking great. I only have one thing that is bugging me. It's the rock on the building by the flipped truck. Would gravity allow it to stay there? Or would it tumble down? Because it had to fall somehow from somewhere....and i just dont think it would have gotten stuck like that (unless it was in more, but that would mean it had to fly in straight through midair...and that would be a little random lol)

Hey, whatisyourname, that "Rock" is actually part of the building that broke off from above. If you look at the second render I posted, you can see where it broke off from the top of the building. I have been looking at it and I do agree with you that it looks kind of weird just sitting there. I'll break up the building some more and break the piece of the building into smaller pieces. Thanks for the input, i'll post more renders soon.
Thanks.

lighting is gonna make or break this

I see lots of lines that don't need to be there, from my experience at building cities you need to keep it light as possible, and nail down your compositions before you start doing details. It will save you tonnes of time. Looks like this one could be promising though. Good luck and have fun.

Hey guys, just an update on this project. Ive currently been slammed for the last month with a 3d and 2d animation im working on and this project got pushed aside for a bit. I have started texturing a little, and throughout the month of December I will be texturing and lighting. I plan to have this completed by late December or Early January, so i'll do my best to post something soon, thanks!
