Ok I know that they are loads of threads on grass and how best to recreate it, however my question is slightly different.

I don't want the most realistic grass you could produce I just want a simple Maya Shading Network that will create a nice looking effect without draining my computer.

So dose anyone have a good example.

Someone mentioned that Highend had some good examples of Maya shading networks for grass but I haven't been able to find any.

As always any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

if you dont need it to blow in the breeze then just use a billboard with alpha channel. Ie a flat plane with grass texture on it and alpha channel attached to make it transparent. That will be the easiest way imo. use several of them to hide the fact they are billboards

If you are creating grass billboards, you can use paint effects to generate an animation that loops in both time and space. The pfx->brushAnimation->loopBrushAnimation allows you to loop the turbulence animation on blowing grass over a specified number of frames. To loop the render in space under pfx->globals turn on sceneWrapH and possibly sceneWrapV. The paint effects will then wrap across the render, so you can take the resulting image and repeat it with no seams.

The resulting render can be color and alpha mapped to a plane with a file texture. Turn on use extension and animate the frame offset.
