Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* 640 x 480 / 480 x 640 OR 800 x 600 /600 x 800
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

well, I started abstract, drawing shapes, and blurring them, then some kind of starship appeared there, I added clouds and something similar to an ugly yellow vomit in the background... I started painting whitout knowing what I was doing, it's an interesting exercise...

I tried to do it as fast as I could, it took me 26 mins in photoshop

http://es.geocities.com/chapucerostechnologies/sketches/speed.JPG

...and now lets see if I can get some serious work done, these topics are dangerously addictive

Lonely Pixel, I like yours a lot, but I just keep pushing the navigator window to the right to see what was that fast glowing thing, the image looks like it was cut where we find out what was it...

You are right about the topics being addictive. I find myself checking back all day long to see what everyone is doing. I really love this one, even the yellow vomit background! :) I do have a question however, are you sure that its a starship and not MustardWash out for a jog?

Really nice entry LonelyPixel - mesmerizing.
Supervlieg - that is really a fast moving dude!

Lonely Pixel

elmasfeo: Thanks :D It's meant to make ppl curious to what actually is that fast moving. As you can see it's completely on it's own, no lifeforms exept for the grass around it... it's lonely.. its me :D woo!

Supervlieg: Thanks :D:D Yours is great, Just gotta love sketches. Most of the time I prefer the sketch version of any drawing, it's way more... vivid? (that the right word?)

robinayles: Thanks to you too! One thing, what does 'mesmerizing' mean? :)

entrancing...hypnotic...spellbinding...in other words, it's WAY cool and I find it really hard to take my eyes off of it, I keep tracking back and forth along that light trail - its GREAT! But it also makes me think of the Road Runner cartoons, BEEP BEEP!...

Woooo!! Thanks robinayles, thanks so much :) hehe.

Gekido - that's awesome, fits the theme perfectly :scream: Maybe just a very litttttleebit of a lightsource => shading would be cool?

well lonely pixel i was so in awe of your image that i had to create some lightining like that...so here is my homage to you and second entry...i don't really like the water...but meh...50mins PS/wacom....oh wow i just noticed that the blur doesn't look as smooth as it did in PS...maybe i'll retouch that later.

This is more the anticipation of speed, but speed none the less.

Oooooo MustardWash, I like it. I almost did a ready-to-pounce kitten, with that same idea of anticipation...

Lonely Pixel~Aye, I did add a bit of lighting, but it got mixed up with the speed lines.. (a lighter shade of yellow)

Love all the images!! Keep 'em coming!!!:D

MustardWash - glad you explained it...although it took me a second or two to make sure I understood the idea - based on his stance and where the flames are, just for a sec or two, I thought maybe he'd eaten too many jalepenos on his Mexican Food! jk http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon10.gif  Really great entry BTW!

Really great entries for so far! Especially that of Lonely Pixel, Supervlieg (as normally ;) ) and Jason! :) Really like them...!

I wanted to make a 'sketch' today, but I'm totally not happy with the result... In fact I find it an ugly kinda sketch, but although I post it... :) Maybe one of you'll like it :)

PS 7.0 / Wacom / 1 hour / Tnx to Kim, for giving the inspiration ;) [yes Kim; I'm sorry, there's quite some nudity there ;) ]

my second entry: it was one of the ideas I had before I read that about "try to capture speed in your drawing", I'm happy with this one because it turned better than I expected (normally it's the other way, it turns worse than expected)
pencil, scan, tablet, photoshop, 1:30h
http://es.geocities.com/chapucerostechnologies/sketches/fastend.JPG

robinayles, thanks! you are right, probably it was my subconscient who draw the "mustardmobile" :D

supervlieg, great expression, the "sketchy" look gives it more sense of speed, ...and thanks for sharing your wpes, I found them a very good way of learning
Lonely Pixel, ok, then you made it perfectly, I'm very curious to what is it :) ...I keep wondering what is it... a fairy? a fast running light bulb? a drunk ufo? aaargh:scream: curious, hehehe, very good job
Gekido, nice one, I agree that maybe a little more color variation would make it better, maybe just a tiny difference between background and the cheetah (sp?)
Captain chapo, I liked your first one, but... why a skeleton?
NancyJo, it reminded me about a scene from Terminator2 where you could see an empty road running quickly away...
Mustardwash, yep, anticipation of speed, I can feel the power that's being released and the tension in the scene
Jasel, GREAT!
dutchman, is she running naked? I liked the colours you used...
digitalskunkwrx, uhu, no ref, very good one!
digitalbobert, lots of stregth and speed in that one, the only problem I had was that it was a little too big and had to scroll up, down, right and left to see it...

whoa...commenting on everybody is tiring...and now...sleep

I know this is kind of a stretch for the topic of "Speed" but there were already so many good posts with the same kind of ideas I had, I decided to go in a different direction. So my concept is "The Speed of Light" and one person's reaction to its speed. (PS, Wacom, 1.5 hrs)

...let me join in real quick: LORDRUST, excellent original and very curious work. It took me actually a few seconds to have my brain snap to your motive...may not speak for me, but I truely enjoy when that happens! Not to mention that it makes the piece twice as brilliant on the meaning-end! big time
