well, i got a pretty hyper-annoying problem. as some of you know i was currently workin on texturing that dino man like character. the a few minutes ago my comp crashed while c4d and the file that contains the character was open. after restarting the computer i wanted to reopen the file...but then this:
file can't be read!!!!!! (i dunno if the message is translated exactly the right way but i think that you can understand it.):annoyed: :annoyed: ....damn 2 weeks of work blown away within seconds! now does someone of you maybe had the same problem and was able to fix or recover the file in some way? i hope so. i'm just totally angry, sad, annoyed and alot more emotions that i don't know the names of. so plz help!

....ahh and the hard and software used: G 4 350 mhz, 448 ram, cinema 4d xl 7.3
and cinema was not the reason that my comp crashed. also i saved the file several seconds before the crash...that's it..gotta go to bed and dream of the file being recovered... :D

There should (hopefully) be a file in the same directory with the same name but with a .bak extension. If so, rename it something else with a .c4d extension and open it up. That should save your dinobacon.

Incremental saves are a good thing, even with a stable ap like Cinema. On a project I'm doing at work I'm on save 65. I increment twice a day (probably a little more than I have to). Of course, I'm working with Max, which has been known to crash, corrupt files, etc. There is nothing worse than having to do the same work all over again.

I save before every significant operation, even though Cinema is super stable. It does crash sometimes, but the main reason for my saves is so I can go back if *I* do something stupid. :surprised

Same reason I use the auto backup feature, but derwolpertinger
would have had to turn that feature on it not on by default.

I can't really help you man, but I would recommend talking to maxon support you never know, and then go to general preferences and turn on the auto bcakup feature, it may be annoying a lot of thetime always having this .bak file anytime you open somethig in XL but trust me its worthit for those rare times when C4D crashes.
