View Full Version : How do i view normal maps in maya?

in maya 5 i had this method with the Maya Cg Plugin from Nvidia but there doesn't seem to be one for maya 6
i also tried this tutorial with an Orb generated normal map but it shows the map very seemy

is the way described in the tutorial the only way or is there a better alternative?

You mean normals? You could just go to display-->polygon components-->normals. In version 6 and version 5. The options to adjust normals are under the edit polygon menu.

There are also some features in the atribute editor. They are in "Mesh Component Displey" under the (objectname)Shape(number) Tab. You can there view the normals and also display the borders. With the borders, you can easily see if you've got faces with reversed normals.
