* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!

sagi_13 is the best thing you can do to help you wrists. I let go of the mouse 6 or 7 years ago and never looked back. I usually work for very long hours and could not have done it w/o my Wacom. I know this sounds like a bad comercial but it's true. It might—or not—take you some time to get used to it but is totally worth it.

I really liked how this one was looking, so I spent some extra time on it. I think I will keep working on this one for a while. There are so many things I'd like to finish up.

openCanvas1.1 :: 1.5 hrs :: wpe(sketch only) (http://www.monkeyshitfight.com/public/quicksketch/LikeACowboy_Sketch.wpe.rar) [bad painting method , I won't post it]

AREM - Great drawing & mood.

SalamanderCoral - Clever! The background taped to the wall is brilliant!

Kirt - Hilarious. Great job. I like how you made the background out of focus - it makes the characters pop.

meta_Nerd - What the heck does your 'sketch' have to do with the topic of the day?

Art2 - Nice shading.

meta_Nerd - What the heck does your 'sketch' have to do with the topic of the day? when I read, "like a cowboy" , The first thing that comes to mind was "Ride 'em' Like a cowboy".
From the posts I think alot of people thought the same.

So I wanted to really work on my colors/lighting (since this is where I feel I am weakest). I also usually do something funny, because it is usually the most effective. But this time I decided to do something a bit more representational. I chose a more seductive approach to "ride em", and used the 2 things a cowboy would most enjoy riding. And tried to give it a nice sensual mood. I knew some people wouldn't get it. But then I am mainly using this forum to better myself, so it served its purpose.

I am glad you asked, alot of people don't ask enough questions. I think this forum is an abundant source of information. I would actually like to see more tutorials and opencanvas event files posted. This would really benifit us all.

If any of the main guys ie: Taron, Goro, etc. could think of a way to let us know what/why you chose colors as you painted (and what you are thinking as you paint). I believe this would really help everyone. I wish opencanvas could record audio.

Oh well, untill then...

chris

Mustardwash,
looks great. I think 1 hr is nothing for how nice it is. My only comment is on the shadow on the chin.... you may want to make it follow the shape of the chin. I think that is kind of flattening it a bit.
Oh,,, one more comment now that I look at the ref you used. I like how in the ref the shadow separates the ear into 2 parts. I really like this, it helps us understand the light and form of the objects. Make sure that your values in the light are lighter than the values in the shadow.

Excellent work.

Thanks for the reply and constructive criticism meta_Nerd!!

Looking at it again I see exactly what you are saying about the chin and now its bugging the hell out of me. :D

I agree with you about the ear. I like how it looks with the shadow dividing it too. I got kinda lazy towards the end and totally forgot to visit that area. A common mistake of mine = impatience.

Thank you greatly for the tips. Coming from an artist such as yourself I am flattered.

I will revisit this and update tomorrow.
