Same here. I need to buy an XBox (damn GameCube's crappy games).

I'm not a big FPS person though.

Is it just me then that thinks this doesn't look any great shakes?
I mean, look at the vehicle in this: http://media.xbox.gamespy.com/media/482/482228/img_2342506.html
Several of the other screens are very average looking aswell. The characters have a bit of work put into them, but the vehicles, weapons and environments don't have a patch on Unreal. The special effects are nice aswell, but even so... Don't think I'll be buying this.

The bar has in fact been raised since the trailer came out with the release of Farcry and Doom3.... The memory of the XBOX is starting to show its limiting factor.

Nope, I'll pass too atleast until it in the bargain bin for 10 bucks. It'll sell millions though for the same reason that the first one did.

well, in all fairness, one of the reasons the original sold so well, was because there was nothing else good on the xbox, but eventually it caught on from its own merit.

I've been waiting for this game for a while. What i like about the series is definitly the gameplay, yeah the graphics are above average, but i'll substitute that for smooth controlls and action anyday for halo.

i've seen the graphics first hand and they are twice as good as Halo 1. textures are extremely crisp and the level [that i saw] was pushing a lot more polys then earlier multiplayer maps from Halo 1.

why is everyone going crazy over this game? MULTIPLAYER. simple as that. not only is it a good game, but multilayer is fun to play. and with the Xbox Live upgrades that are being introduced with Halo 2, playing online with your friends will be a new experience. i don't know everything but they are introducing clans, custom decals on your characters, and the fact if your playing Halo 2 with a cool bunch of people, you can all stay together and go play another game, like Burnout3 [without losing anyone while switching discs].

and for the people who can't use a controller for a FPS, check this out! (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?products_id=5438) [tested with halo]

Back on topic, Congrates Bentlama & Bungie, I'm sure this will be a hit. I know it's nice to see the fruit of ones labor complete.

From the various interviews I've read with Bungie (primarily in EDGE) I seem to recall that Halo 2 actually uses less polys in its models than Halo 1. Bungie has chosen instead to spend the CPU/GPU cycles on pixel shading and post processing effects.

Now I just need to find an Xbox and a copy of this game...a big task considering my current income level.

congrats Bentllama and Bungie!

Well, I thought that halo 1 would never come out for PC, but it did. I do have dbouts about halo 2 on pc though. I asked bentllama if it would ever be converted, and he said no - he said that the 1st one was originally coming out for PC before microsoft made it xbox exclusive, but halo2 was made with the xbox in mind from the start. If it does ever come out, I dont think it will be for at least a year.
Im gonna (reluctantly) buy an xbox for it. I say reluctantly, cos the only games other than halo I like the look of is the Dead or alive games, ninja gaiden and outrun 2... and xboxs' are huge and damn ugly! Also, i already have a Pc, GBA and ps2 to buy games for...
It should be worth it though, because halo1 was probably the best FPS ive played since half life, and i loved the single player game. Bungie are telling virtually no details about the single player game of h2, so its gonna be a great surprise to see what happens.

Dammit! Halo 2, Killzone, Half life 2, GTA San andreas, MGS 3! Its gonna be an expensive autumn for games.....

Ps - wooyay! My 1001 th post!

hi again

i've watched over the whole halo 1 desaster. first it is called out for PC than bad microsoft joins the party and buys bungie making halo their eyecandy for their upcoming "next-gen"console Xbox. arwww... so i waited and was rewarded for it when halo 1 hits pc ground in 2003. but that was a long time up to then. as for halo 2 i can say that what i saw is quite amazing work. when you look at the render cutscenes *teardropsinmyeye*...
but that aside there is NO other game for xbox which i'm interested in and that aside - YES the XBox is ugly in my opinion. i will not support microsoft further buying their console, not for this money, no sir. though i have to admit that their games have some of the best rendered cutscene ;)
i will save my little money to buy me a ps2 this winter and get drakan2, some of the finalfantasy-games and wait for starcraft:ghost since i am a big fan of blizzards space universe. the ps2 has simply more titles which interest me.

so long i envy everyone of you who already has the possibility to play and which you hf+gl :)

yes they do useless polys per character, but i think they are using normal mapping to make it look like more. and i'm sure they worked on the engine and improved little things that help with the over all visuals [good lighting really helps some polys and textures pop!]

and for all you out there wondering if you should buy an xbox for halo 2...

you would buy a new $250+ video card for a new pc game, why not spend the same amout for a new system, halo 2, and xbox live for the same price? also pickup Burnout 3 and you'll have enough fraggin' and crashin' online to last you a long time

CONGRAT BUNIGE!

All I remember about Halo 1 was: Enter generic corridor, walk over trigger, enemies spawn in front and behind you, kill enemies, look for exit and repeat cycle from the beginning. Sure, some of the vehicle parts were nice, but the gameplay itself was a major dissappoinment. And that several years after games like Half-Life.

Maybe this one will be better. But all that multiplayer stuff is old for PC gamers.

Colt, I agree. But the co-op definitely made it worth it. It was a lackluster game otherwise, but Co-Op single player was ridiculous fun.

Sounds like you guys just put it on normal and breezed through the first one. Go back, crank it on Legendary, and watch yourself get punked by some fantastic AI.

Unfortunately, the beauty of that game only showed itself for those daring enough to crank up the difficulty. Otherwise, yes, it's easy to say it's lame when the enemies aren't a challenge.

peace,

Lu

Smart developers know its not pushing more polies, its pushing smarter polies.

Especially at console screen resolutions...

yeh, i quite enjoyed the game, contrary to what everyone else says. Played it the second time on legendary, mind you i never finished it. But i thought it was a awesome game, didn't analyse for what it looked like, but how much i enjoyed playing it. Stilll, it looked cool too.

Halo1 was and still is a great game - and I would be willing to bet that the majority of the people that bash it have only played the PC version - which was a sub-par convertion, not nearly as fun as the original (and came out so much later than the console version, that by then the competition had caught up to it).

Either way, its gonna be a loooong month waiting for Halo 2 to finally come out.

Afterthought:

Let's pray that Halo 2 doesn't recycle levels like Halo did. If there was one negative aspect about Halo it was that half the game was just going back through the same levels. Pretty chintzy.

Pretty chintzy.Quoted for truth, double truth, triple truth. That's the reason why I never bought Halo after I borrowed it from someone. I'm willing to give Halo 2 a chance though. I'll rent it and see what it looks like. If I like, I'll buy. If not, no big loss. Plenty of other games to play (GTA:SA, HL2, Doom3, Prince of Persia:WW)

I think half of the fun me and my friend had from this game was finding carny holes. Like getting out of the level on blood gultch, and being able to do some crazy crap Like get ontop of almost every level, and infinite ammo, and all that crazy stuff. After the fun was over for us in terms of the normal game, it lasted at least another 2 years because the physics allowed you to do things that other games could not. Like in some games, once you fall past a point, you die. In halo, it's how hard you fall, and the slope it's at. This kind of stuff allowed us to do crazy stuff. I say it over and over. I just hope theres as many carny holes in this game as there were in the last game.

That's my question too. I thought it was a good game, just nothing out of the ordinary.
Nothing against it, I just didn't see what all the hype was. I personally believe it was MS'd hyped and it was a launch game. And most launched games that are good and that much hype machine behind it, is bound for success.

So again, decent game...I just didn't see what all the hub bub was.

afaik there was only the missing co-op and that cut the half of fun from the game but it was an awesome story

It was a 3D multiplayer follow up to their Marathon games for the Mac. It was more akin to Starsiege : Tribes in its initial incarnations.

There was mass outcry and hysteria in the Mac community when MS games bought em.
