Title: Shark Encounter
Name: Simon Lissaman
Country: Australia
Software: Photoshop

Shark Encounter is a portfolio piece using caricature/cartoony styling to tell a small story. I drew the shark using pencil before scanning & rendering in Photoshop. I'm particularly happy with the way the water turned out.

Comments are most welcome.

Cheers, Simon

fantastic pic! the way the light hits the shark, you should put in a big shadow being cast down over the little fishy!

Looks like another day at the office! Nice painting!

I have a couple of suggestions. The bubbles look too much the same, vary their size and shape, bubbles are never perfectly round in the water. The water reflection highlights on the sharks back could use a bit more work, maybe they should be more on his back then on his side, that would give him more dimension.

Good Job!

Thanks guys!

I must admit to a certain amount of inspiration from Finding Nemo, so spot on Paperclip!

I should probably work on the little fish a bit more. Now you mention it, SpaceTik, he does look a little unfinished. I know I have to work on the ripples a bit more, as I'm not over the moon with them. Ah well, practice makes perfect!

Awesome work. Your style is like this sureal blend between photo-realism and total cartoony. Love it.

very nice. It's fun yet still impressive. I like the caustics on the shark. I would play with that effect some more to make it shine a little more....other than that very nice.

really nice on the shark, but it's true the fish loks pasted on - considering it is under the shark (looks like it should be under it's shadow, it's real;ly brightly lit and looks like a flat cartoon fish.

Other than that, really nice work, that's one angry shark!

This is my favorite piece in the gallery.

What really sells it is the reaction of the smaller fish. Brilliant!

Only Photoshop?:surprised
Yep, only photoshop was used in the rendering. I'm experimenting with Painter at the moment, but haven't done anything worth showing yet.

Great stuff! I like the way how you drew the shark in between its realistic and cartoony form. :)
