Guys take a look at this:

the above link is from sager , which is the exact same laptop boxx is selling with just a different logo.

its 2x more expensive almost. I am curious why that would be so?

Well Boxx is just expensive, great machines well tested configurations, bout 10 months ago I bought a "laptop" from gateway a 17" screen p4 3.0 ghz ATI 9600 Mobility w/128mb and a gig of ram plus a three year drop, kick, punch warranty and it cost $2200 at the time.
Pretty happy with it, either way I think the price and warranty have a big thing to do with it.
Mine goes nearly everywhere I do, something breaks free fix or replacement is pretty important to me.

Boxx has a good warranty program from what I read.

The second manufacter you were looking at subs out their extended warranty, wouldn't be to stoked about that myself but...

what do you mean?

portablez have 1 year full warranty included in price just like boxx, and 2\3 year extended ones.

The sager warranty is subcontracted out to another company for their extended warranty. In my expierence that is a recipe for disaster. If something breaks you have to deal with someone other than the manufacterer of the hardware. Do you see what I mean?

Who knows they could be built by the same company (boxx alienware gateway HP and sager or anyone else with a 17" screen), well if your laptop stays mostly at home, no need to worry about the warranty. I always worry bout the crash, burn... and crunch...

Don't get me wrong thats a damn nice portable, all good hardware. I agree, some others are way too expensive (boxx, alienware).

There is a whole section dedicated to Sager tech support, nicely organized by model. Check it out.

hmm that wasnt my intention , I am just curious why boxx costs 2x more for the same system , cause i cant seem to find the reason from their website.

If I am spending my hard earned money i would like to make informed decisions , hence the reason this thread is started.

The hardware is the same. I like to say, "that explains the webcam on the GoBoxx". :)

I believe the price difference boils down to brand name and service.

First, let me say that this mobile workstation, our GoBOXX, is a great system. I've had mine since April and I love it. Now to pricing. We wanted a solid mobile workstation offering for our customers who prefered to purchase from us and continued to ask for such a product. We had a heck of a time negotiating any sort of deal with the distributor of these systems since we didn't expect to sell many of them. This is a totally different model for us since it's the only system we sell that we didn't design and manufacture from the ground up. BOXX purchases the base assembly and integrates the processor, heat sink, memory and hard drives. We load software and configure the OS. We have validated that the unit will provide the best possible performance with all of the major DCC applications. We test every unit before it is shipped. We also provide our (excellent) technical support and a "return to depot" warranty.

From what we have seen, companies like Sager, purchase the unit fully assembled and in very large volumes. They just put the unit into their packaging and ship to the end user. No validation, no testing, just branding....that's not BOXX. Never has been, never will be.

We're working to try and reduce the pricing on these systems while maintaining the standards that people have come to expect (though not always value) from BOXX.

I have a Sager and I'm very happy with it. They get consistently good reviews on hardware sites and from actual users (magazines don't review'em as they don't advertise much). *Many* vendors sell their equipment and rebrand it as their own. A good warranty is certainly nice to have, but at 1/2 the price you can chuck the thing in the trash and buy another if there's a problem. Or buy two! Use one for the farm and if one of them goes down you're no worse off.
