You select the side you want to change the material, press q for surface change, and give it a different name and attribute.
Then you can access it through the surface editor, and change all other options of the surface.
But before you ask any more questions like that, i would advise you to take a good tour through the manual, regarding LW's interface and which button does what. ;)

select the polygon, hit 'q', name each surface individually and change texture settings in surface editor

The manual will cover everthing to do with surfacing.

Highlight the poly, press q and give it a surface name. Then open surface editor and mess around until you get what you want.

Cheers.

Actually some answers should be made into templates in CGtalk because people ask the same questions all the time (although not this one) :D

But what happens if you've moved so many times that you've somehow lost the manuals.

That's happened to me.

Holy CRAP!!!

WOOOT!!!

And what's interesting is that upon trying to copy them over to disk, I notice that they were installed originally.

And the best part.... They're searchable!!

Man, this just made my day.

Thanks, Leigh.
