I'm a Maya novice, taking an intro to 3D computer animation class at my college this year, so I apologize if this question is something you guys get all the time. I'm trying to render projects with my copy of Maya 6.0 for the Mac, and I'm getting odd edge problems. Even with high-quality anti-aliasing, I get hitches in edge rendering, at the edges of render zones (the rectangles and squares where pieces of the image appear as Maya renders). In the software, hardware, and mental ray renderers this problem appears. The image is not zoomed out or in at all, but is at 1.000. I'm running Maya on my 1.25GHz G4 PowerBook, with a Radeon Mobility 9600. Has anyone else run into this sort of problem before?

If needed I can post a picture of the problem.

if you are using maya renderer, in your render globals under the "Maya Software" tab for the "Anti-aliasing Quality" move the quality to production quality and give it a shot to see if it clears it up.

If you are using ray tracing, you have to turn on that as well in the render globals as well, but move it from the default 10 down to a reasonable number like 2.

Also note, if you are using an illegal copy of maya, which I hope you are not, on your mac, then you are asking for problems with tampered software.

Let me know if you are still having problems...

good luck

** sorry, didn't read your post well enough** can you post a render or describe your problem a little more **

this may sound stupid... but did you save your render and watch it with photoshop (or preview)... coz the maya render window sometimes displays glitches that aren't really there

I guess KISS applies to solving computer problems as well! I saved my render out as a TIFF and viewed it in Preview... damned if it wasn't perfect. Thanks for pointing out what should've been obvious, maxx10, much appreciated.
