OMG! That's funny!
Very creative idea!
"Can Tab" foot supports...now thats cool.
Onward, lets see some more!:applause:

One comment...dont know if you've thought of this, but since the fuses are still intact (meaning it hasn't been launched yet), you should prop the bottle rockets up on something showing its going to be shot into the air instead of up the neighbor dogs wahzoo...know what I mean?

Looking great!

As always stated by individuals within cgtalk forums, "Show us the wireframe!":bounce:

The "Roach" is a cool idea,...
And I think you should make the sticks from the rockets much longer...but hey, thats just a personal preference. Haven't really seen any bottle rockets since I was a kid...when they were legal, maybe there are in your state...but not in mine.

The Roach should wear one of them Japanese - Karate - Headband - type thingies with a Kamakazi symbol on it...as freemind77 said, it looks more suicide.

You rock!!!:buttrock:

Stygian

My only question , is the cockroach aware that bottle rockets usually explode at the end of their flight ?

road
08-20-2002, 04:03 AM
freemind77 - yea it does seem like a suicide run!

cactusjack - I'll get a wireframe up tomorrow....
awesome idea on the headband!!!!! I will definately add him a kamikazi headband..! I was going to make the sticks broken off at first but i think longer would be better and even stuck into a bottle...

Stygian - yea they usually do explode so this may be a one way trip.... hehe

I'll get a new post up tomorrow for sure thanx for the replies...

MUHAHHA pitty insect LOL :p
c+c > I think the side of matchbox with rubber wraped around(or what ever it is) is too short , so it would be hard to strike with ?

maybe add some irregularity to match box and even rockets itself , they looks too perfect now ? Also bevel slightly edges on riockets sticks it looks better in render than

btw very creative idea ! keep us updated !:bounce: :wip:

That should look really cool

Minor update?...Weeze wanna see Major update!:shame:

Aching to see the roach with limbs...is it going to have 4 or 6?
Maybe go for six...seeing the comparison of the size of the match to the size of the roach, he may need to hands to pick the match up...

Wadaya think?

Show us more!!!:applause: :applause: :applause:

CactusJack

How about putting some boots or some sort of foot wear on the little buggar? Or, just make his feet bigger. I dunno, the feet just seem to blend in too much with the soda tab foot supports. I just think the feet should be able to say, "Hey look at me! I'm feet!"

Know what I mean? I think if/when you make the arms, the hands should be bigger too...

But what the hell do I know?

Glad to see your back and going at it again!

:applause:

Looking forward to your next update road...see you then...

Great man!!!

Your machine is simple and fabulous... i was wondering about the insect face when the match was scratched... wow...

amazing work....!:buttrock:

Fetus23
08-29-2002, 07:56 AM
Yea!! Thats looking great road...definatly getting there  . The shadows added a whole lot to this and the perspective is very pleasing in the latest render. I'm wondering what else you have planned? As for crits, I'd like to see some subtle detail on the rockets. A render of the moment of take off or soon after would be also be nice. You've got a really great concept here and im looking forward to seeing more.

model on!! :wip:

Geta-Ve

I was thinking, you should add something else to hold the fork to the rocket.... maybe another rubber band? or perhaps more tape... who knows...... its just that the fork looks like it could just fly away once the rocket started up..lol

great model and idea by the way

CactusJack
08-29-2002, 04:45 PM
I know this isn't the place for it, but....

Globox rocks!!! :buttrock:

Sorry road...I have a slight Globox fetish...hehe.

tuba3d - thanx very much

Fetus23 - yea i think i will continue this piece after the challenge is over and really finish it off.... I think a launch pic would be cool!! I'm not sure what else to add to the rockets except maybe a label but that would use textures most definately....

Geta-Ve - I totally agree with you!! I have thought the same thing but thanx to you now i will do it!

CactusJack - thanx Cactus means alot coming from you!! I am going to add some plants into the scene also ....

adr - I am messing with some GI for this ...!

freemind77
08-29-2002, 07:11 PM

The GI looks awsome!!! :applause:

very nice!

one crit, but probably doesn't matter,
but lookin at it from the back, the rockets look hollow...

maybe you could fill 'em up and show the fuses coming out of the "packed powder"...

just an idea...

:applause:

outstanding job overall my friend...

can't wait to see what you come up with next month...

i'm still laughing at the whole concept...very funny!

here's to you and your cock...roach!

fixed some compositional issues......

http://www.roadsart.com/AandB/AandB19.jpg

Rot - thanx that was CactusJack's idea...!!

CactusJack - I did the rockets this way because i remember when i was young that those plastic type bottle rockets "whistlers" where mostly hollow to make the whistling noise... they had about 1/4 full of powder...
I'm looking forward to next month also!! Thanx for all your support!

otacon - Wow!! thanx that's a great compliment!!

Rot
09-04-2002, 04:10 PM
Only one crit: in my opinion the viewport you choose isn't the best for your scene... the bottle isn't immediatly recognizable and the deep of field appears just a little bit flat...
IMHO the view from behind you show in the bottom on the right looks a lot better...

Whatever, great bug (and great bandana !)

baby
09-04-2002, 07:54 PM
I love your scene but try to fix your bottle...
the rendering is very weird...

Aearon
09-04-2002, 08:06 PM
yeah i agree with the bottle-problem

i think you should experiment a bit with the material
try using a two-sided material with different IOR's for both sides

(copy that bottle, flip the normals of all polygons, apply a different material on the copy)

maybe you've all done this, then try to do something different - the thing just doesn't refract right atm ;)

other than that: VERY cool idea and great execution, cool stuff

road
09-04-2002, 09:22 PM
Rot - yea you may be right.... i did some experimenting with the camera but ultimately decided that my focus was the roach and everything else was secondary to that.... thus my camera angle... thanx also for the compliments...!!

baby - I totally agree with you below is a new rendering...!! thanx

fist - thanx for your input !!! I think the pic below is an improvement... not sure if it's the best it could be yet.....
thanx for the compliments also!!

http://www.roadsart.com/AandB/AandB23.jpg

baby
09-04-2002, 09:30 PM
thing very strange is your wood sticks disappear inside the bottle...U should still see them even with the refraction !!!!

road
09-05-2002, 12:01 AM
baby - I totally agree with you...!! that has bugged me also... i am trying to fix that right now and I should have another update up tonight....

road
09-05-2002, 01:45 AM
Ok finally some refraction i'm pretty happy with...
thanx for the crits all...
also changed the depth of field....

http://www.roadsart.com/AandB/AandB24.jpg

Zardoz
09-05-2002, 01:59 AM
i really think that your idea of the matchbox is very cool! I agree with the other guys about the refraction on your bottle but i see that now you have it corrected...probably it's not perfect yet but it's better now.

I think that probably you need to add some reflections or maybe fresnel, because it looks kind of flat now. But you're on the right track. I'd love to see that cockroach fly!
